A fantastic revitalization of a historic building. It was great to see the use of the courthouse. Service was outstanding. Staff very Friendly. We visited during the first week of operation - some elements, such as the pool, were closed due to finishing construction / beautification. I look forward to returning once all changes are complete.

Disclosure: This is the first week of operation for this hotel and as such there were some minor issues but the staff's willingness to please and exemplary service was phenomenal and made up for any glitches.

SERVICE:
We are SPG platinum and the service was over-the-top; all the staff really was trying hard to please. From the initial encounter with valet to the friendly check-in by Lutrell to the wonderful recommendations and follow-up by Julie (concierge/front desk) to the awesome SPG recognition by Dan Martin, the front office manager and another manager (didnt get his name, African-American person who checked in periodically to see how everything was while we were dining at restaurant Bizou) as we were dining at Bizou Brasserie on our last night, the service was amazing and what you expect at a high-end hotel/vacation spot.

LOCATION:
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the former courthouse occupies an entire city block of North Florida Avenue between Zack and Twig Streets and was previously a customs house and post office. It underwent a $26 million renovation and became the Le Méridien Tampa.

ROOMS: The rooms are beautiful and we were fortunate to be on top floor (5th floor) The bathrooms and rooms had high class amenities and furnishings. We loved the bed and the bathroom was gorgeous!

HISTORICAL VALUE: The building is wonderful and it is great to see how the hotel has incorporated elements of its prior "life" but the buildings most notable architectural elements, including the marble and terrazzo lobby as well as its oak door frames and window casings have been preserved,

FACILITIES:

Contemporary facilities include an outdoor pool (was undergoing some construction of sort and had to be escorted to the pool which was a drag but we figured it was ok as the place made up for it in terms of service), 24-hour fitness center and ultramodern business center that features a historic judge’s bench as the primary work station.

FOOD: Bizou Brasserie’s French cuisine is located on second floor with option to also get cocktails at Longitude Bar (1st floor). We dined at Bizou on sunday night and it was quiet (sat night the place was buzzing with activity) and enjoyed our food. .. . was pleasantly surprised to see their amazing wine selection and they offered Caymus by the glass , ,, ,never have seen that and that was awesome!

SUMMARY: Yes there are some glitches but we overlooked them as felt it wasn't a deal breaker and the staff made up for it due to their phenomenal service! Yes there are some reviews that knock the place because of this but look we have traveled a lot and are SPG platinum and we know a great place when we see one and we have now found a great place to stay when we return to Tampa!. This place was awesome!

Room Tip: Talk to the concierge they have some great recs you wont be disappointed! Ask for Julie!

So, I understand that people are excited to see the renovated courthouse, and there's a small cool factor to seeing the frosted glass doors still boasting official courtroom titles.

But last weekend there was a fundraising event in the 4th floor ballroom (which is quite small), and while the staff did their best, I wouldn't recommend any event in the space past 10:00 p.m.

It's located between several guest rooms, so anytime the main room doors swung open, the band music blasted into the hallway, and guests lingering at the elevator clearly upset paying hotel guests with their (alcohol-induced) loud, boisterous conversations.

A staff member told me that guests on floors above and below also had noise complaints.

If you're staying at the hotel, you may want a room farthest away from the ballroom. If you're thinking of hosting your event in the ballroom, it's probably in everyone's best interests if you look elsewhere for a party atmosphere past 10 o'clock.

Room Tip: Away from the ballroom if you value your sleep

Thank you for sharing your comments and being our first event, we certainly take away a learning from this and have already instituted action steps to avoid in the future. Simple fixes to reduce any possible inconveniences.

Appreciate you sharing and agree, many people are very excited about our hotel and space.

Looking forward to your next visit.

I am a Starwood SPG Gold member so I've stayed at a few different properties in the Starwood family. I must say this property which is located within the renovated original courthouse in downtown Tampa is absolutely AMAZING!!! I was looking for a local hotel (I live in Tampa) to get away for a night with my wife to escape our 3 heathen children. This property had their grand opening just 2 weeks ago so I was concerned they would still be working out the kinks. Let me tell you that every piece of our stay was truly wonderful. Le Meridien did an incredible job renovating a Tampa landmark (original courthouse building) into a spectacular hotel. Do yourself a favor and check this place out!

We traveled to Tampa, Fl for a family vacation and booked a room at Le Meridien in dowwntown Tampa, a brand new hotel converted from a National Register of Historic Places ex Federal Courthouse. The concept is unique and the hallways blend in the old with the new with beautiful marble floors and lots of wood features in the hallways. The rooms themselves are very modern in gray tones, comfortable with great beds, big windows and large new modern bathrooms although they could use more overhead lighting in the rooms ( no mini bar or wall safe ). The hotel has a bar on the first floor and a bar, coffee bar, restaurant on the second floor which can be accessed from the original courthouse steps or from inside the hotel. We had drinks at the bar, which was very lively, and which can get a bit loud due to the Marble on the wall but we did not eat at the restaurant, the bar staff was friendly but slow as this was their first week working. Since they had just opened there were some small issues such as the elevator rugs not vacuumed overnight showed some light traffic and the waste basket papers were not removed from our room by cleaning service when the rooms beds were made and our TV was not connecting to the internet but none was a major issue. The staff was very helpful, attentive and polite during our stay and a pleasure to deal with even offering us some extra SPG points for the waste basket mixup. If your looking for a new experience in Tampa you should like this hotel.

Room Tip: I only give an average on service and cleanliness due to the first weeks hiccups since its a Le Meri...

Our party of four visited Le Meridien’s second floor bar on June 21 (a Saturday night). (There is a small bar on the first floor near the reception area, but the main bar and the hotel restaurant are on the second floor of this magnificently renovated former federal courthouse.) The Le Meridien hotel and its restaurant and bar opened only six days before our visit and so we had low expectations regarding drinks, food and service, and when we saw that the bar area was packed—standing room only—at 9:30 p.m., we assumed we would encounter unusually poor service. This was not the case. Service was fast for the circumstances and exceptionally attentive.

For example, our server greeted us within a few minutes, took our drink orders and then returned a couple of times to alert us that the drink orders were in process but that the bartenders were filling orders slowly because of the capacity crowd. It took five or 10 minutes to get our drinks, but various staff members kept checking on us and when we asked for an appetizer menu, we got the menus quickly and the food also was served quickly. All things considered, service was reasonably fast and extremely attentive.

On our way out, a manager (who identified himself as a night auditor) asked if we wanted a tour and took us through a sample hotel room, the ballroom and the swimming pool area. That was both kind and very good marketing: The renovation of this former federal courthouse is impressive. And for those not from Tampa, the hotel is within easy walking distance of several museums, an historic movie theatre, and the business district.

My husband and I decided to have dinner out tonight at Bizou Brasserie, Le Meridien's restaurant. The hotel and restaurant are open less than a week but the place was busy and buzzing. The property is just beautiful, both inside and out. The food was outstanding; we each started with the Manhattan clam chowder and it was the best version of this soup we've ever eaten. Normally, this soup is watery with chunks of clams and potatoes. This soup was a puree topped with some vegies, croutons and even a bite of lobster. Truly delicious (and hot). We shared a Caesar's salad with salmon and a burger. Both were delicious. The wine list was limited but nice and reasonably priced. Our server was very professional and attentive. The only flaw in the evening was that the kitchen was very slow; I suspect this will improve over time. Other dishes we saw being presented to other tables looked delicious as well - e.g., the charcuterie platter and the cheese platter.

We look forward to dining here again and bringing guests with us the next time.
