“great for kayaking”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

Beautiful park nestled in town near Univ of South Fla. It is so wild, you'll forget you're close to civilization. Rent or bring your own canoe, the staff is friendly and helpful. We saw baby alligators on the dock where the kayaks launched and heard wild boar grunting on the shoreline. Lots and LOTS of butterflies. Bring plenty of water, and mosquito repellent just in case. Nice shady boardwalk for hiking.

“Great place to walk, beautiful views!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2014

Last time I was here was over 20 years ago, so since I'm now a regular runner, thought I'd check it out. Not too much trail to run (1.25 mi) but the boardwalk is such a great place for a beautiful nature walk along the water. Very peaceful here and great for canoeing.

“Very Relaxing”

There's a boardwalk that allows you to walk and observe wildlife safely. We saw a few 'gators and some egrets and such. Plus the exotic plants. Very pretty, and very relaxing.

“On the Nature Lover's List”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 27, 2014

Simply delightful small park located close to downtown Tampa, parking for $2. This park has picnic facilities, a visitors centre and a well maintained board walk and observation tower that allows you to get up close and personal with Florida's flora and fauna. The forest is serene and peaceful with majestic cedars, Spanish moss and assorted wild flowers peeking out of the swamp in many places. My visit allowed me to see some gators sunning themselves, turtles swimming about and many different varieties of birds and fishes. Although I did not do so, you can rent a canoe or kayak to drift down the Hillsborough River. This is probably a spot I will return to, it should be on your list of to do's if you are a Nature lover visiting Tampa. The only thing I would improve would be to give people the choice of taking a map. Once you go there, you will realize that it is not really needed, but for a first timer, it would help familiarize with the surroundings and routes. All in all, I highly recommend a half day outing to this lovely little gem of a park.

“The best 2 dollars you can spend in Tampa”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2014

Lovely place, take some drinks & snacks - or a full on barbecue if you want - but mainly take some bug spray and take your time to spot the turtles, alligators & other critters.
The canoe hire is a bit odd as you have to ring a ranger to get a code to unlock the boat - there's no-one around to help as far as we could see & we didn't have a phone - pity.
Nice option for a relaxing day in a big, hot city
