We had an amazing vacation in Tampa and this was a real treat. Any one that enjoys the outdoors, and/or loves birdwatching, should consider visiting Lettuce Lake Park while in Tampa. It is well worth it. Many paved walking paths, also several miles of different boardwalks meandering around the lake. We saw many species of herons, egrets, limpkins, spoonbills, as well as some warblers, woodpeckers, and a few gators. It was a great couple of hours spent and not too far from the city. Entrance fee is $2 per vehicle. They also have canoe rentals at $25 for half a day.

While this park is not mind-blowing, it is very beautiful. We walked along the boardwalk through the swamp forest and were treated to views of all kinds of birds and a couple alligators and turtles. There are plenty of places to have a picnic and you can even rent a canoe and travel amongst the birds and gators. The natural beauty of the trees and swamp along the boardwalk was the best part in my opinion. It truly makes you feel as though you are in a very unique part of the world. If you are in the area, this should be on your to-do list. We drove up from the airport on the first day of our travels to Tampa, and I think it was worth the relatively short drive, although I probably would not drive hours to see this park.

Tip: make sure you take the boardwalk around to the viewing platform, and climb up the stairs to get a tremendous view of the water, birds and trees (and maybe even spot a gator in the water like we did). Enjoy!

Went there on a nice day during the week...not many people there at all. $2 admission per car is great! Took charcoal and burgers and cooked out at "pavilion" #7 right by the water. Grills are provided. Forgot matches but the park manager had a lighter so he cleaned out the grill and lit our charcoal! Priceless. We had a great relaxing time eating and walking on the boardwalk. Saw 2 small alligators and tons of birds. This was definitely a surprise to find and a very economical way to spend a day away from the hustle and bustle. LOVED IT.

Spent a couple hours walking around here last week while we were in the Tampa area. We arrived on what looked to be school field trip day, so the rangers were occupied with the kids - not an issue for us; our only comment would be that there were no park maps available at the visitor center, and that was disappointing.

We did the board walk, starting at the end by the canoe launch...saw plenty of birds and a small alligator! Even saw a turkey, which surprised us...we heard comments from the kids as we passed by that they had also seen snakes, which I was VERY happy not to have seen myself!

In college would come out here to relax. Also walk the trails. It was just a nice place to get away and be in nature and see the animals. Sometimes would jog the trails or have lunch. It is just a nice little tucked away park.
