My wife and I recently took advantage of the "no corking fee" and filet mignon and lobster two-course special, which is a spectacular deal. We both ordered our steaks Pittsburgh-style medium rare. While mine came out perfect, my wife's was very overcooked (well). Once we advised the server, she was very quick to offer another filet while she enjoyed the lobster. A short time later they brought her both a perfectly cooked steak and another lobster, which they didn't need to do. They were very apologetic and pleasant and then offered us coffee and dessert, which we declined as the pineapple upside-down cake and chocolate lava are wonderful, but pretty filling. Notwithstanding, the manager brought us some gelato, which was light and very good without being too much.
I have been to many Roy's throughout the years and have found that this level of customer service, even when there is a minor issue with the food, is what sets Roy's apart from other chains and why we will continue to go there.
The only negative I would have with this Roy's is that the fish selection is not very unique and doesn't feature many Hawaiian fish (my parents live in Maui). Instead, they are fish you can get at many places in Tampa such as salmon, mahi and swordfish. I wish they would offer some Ono, Opakapaka, or Opah, for example, but it may be that they are too difficult and/or expensive to get to Florida. I will say the fish they do serve are very fresh.
