Description: Now celebrating 34 smokin' years, this venerable Tampa Bay landmark was purchased by three Air Force buddies in 1980 who met while stationed in Alaska and presumably sought to get as far away from the frozen tundra as possible. In the years since, Skipper's has grown from a small smokehouse takeout operation with a casual Sunday jam to a full-service restaurant and much-loved purveyor of world-class music. The architecture is a smorgasbord of "cracker" and islandy-Key West styles with overturned boats, wooden walkways, large murals dot the landscape while artfully rusted walls contain the sounds of revelry. In the Oyster Bar, a vintage moonshine still hangs over the bar while in the dining room, weathered posters tinted by neon lights add varying hues of color and atmosphere.

“Great neighborhood bar”

Dress in anything you like. No dress codes here. Barely have to wear shoes. Good live music venue. Cheap beer at happy hour. Good wings and oysters. Lots of regulars.

“Great as always”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Just went back to Skippers for the first time in 8 years and it was great to see that not only is it still there, but thriving. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a martini and a plate of oysters. Staff was friendly as always. Great funky blues bar and outside venue as well. Years ago we attended the Blind Willie CD launch party, it was a blast. Don't let the outside fool you, it is a grea restaurant and bar when you get inside

“Very disappointing.”
Reviewed February 24, 2013 via mobile

It was our first time and was told we had to stop in and try their food. Well that was bad advivce. I don't care who ate there from the Food Network it was just plain cheap food. We would have done just as well ate at Burger King. The sever was nice but had to find her to get refills on our drinks. Not a good meal.

“Let down again”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

My husband and I have always loved going to Skipper's, but lately the quality and service has really gone downhill. This past Sunday we went, ordered our food and WAITED and WAITED and WAITED! Our food never came after an hour and a half ( and the only reason we even waited was because we are regulars and the waitresses even know our order before we sit down). We finally just gave up and ate elsewhere since this is the second time in a month we've had this issue! I truly hope Skipper's can get there act together...I will miss them until they do.
