“Beautiful building and great location”
Reviewed March 26, 2013

My spouse and I decided to take our family there for breakfast this weekend. Oxford Exchange is beautifully appointed. Great bookstore, gifts, and decor. The food is very good, but the service leaves a bit to be desired. Our waiter tried to sell us on a tea that he states has ten times the caffeine of a cup of coffee, and decided to tell us he had already had three. That was apparent by the way his hands were trembling. After his introduction, it took him approximately 15-20 min to return to take our order. My spouse ordered an iced green tea while the rest of the table ordered various coffees. About 15 minutes later we see a young waiter walking from table to table asking guests "is this your tea?" He finally made it to our table...now it was watered down green tea as the ice has now melted. Our food arrives, which was very good, packed with great flavor. As we our finishing our food our coffee FINALLY arrived. Yes, we had coffee for dessert.

Despite the poor service, we will return to Oxford Exchange. It is a must see in Tampa because it is truly a beautiful design. It has a great selection of books, and a great selection of unique gifts.

“Wow - a must try”
Reviewed March 20, 2013

I have been here twice and both times have not been disappointed. The food presentation is simple, however once you have a bite the taste is a wonderful explosion of flavors. If you haven't been here- it is a must try.

“A interesting building and restaurant”

IT is located in an old building that has interesting architecture. A nice book store and a shop that had a little bit of everything. A restaurant the had high tea.

“We should have eaten on campus”
Reviewed March 15, 2013 via mobile

My friend and I, along with our two teenage daughters ate here while visiting the University of Tampa. When we arrived at 11:30 am the hostess asked if we had a reservation and we did not. She then proceeded to act as if seating us presented a huge challenge even though the restaurant was 90% empty. Our server was very nice and tried to make the best of things over what turned out to be a mostly bad lunch. First off, the shrimp dish I initially ordered was "no longer on the menu" even though it was clearly written on the menu. My daughter ordered the fruit and cheese platter. What she received was a blob of mozzarella cheese, 2 pieces of dry toast, a couple of cherry tomatoes, and a puddle of olive oil. This was $11 and had been listed on the menu as " assorted fruits and cheeses." When we complained we were told " that is today's fruit and cheese platter." Seriously? That is the only "fruit" you could come up with in Florida? So we sent it back and getting it taken off the check was apparently something only a manager could do because this also became a big deal. My friend ordered the Caesar salad which turned out to be made with kale. It was tough and terrible. I had a burger that was fine but nothing out of the ordinary and very pricey. At one point our waitress actually apologized and told us they were starting a new menu the next day and that was why things weren't up to par. That didn't exactly make us feel better about the whole experience! Overall this restaurant is overpriced and apparently has a chef who is trying way too hard to be clever. The adjacent shop is very cute though and we should have just shopped there then gone back to campus to eat.

“Classic everything”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

A perfect mix of great food, classic decor, great service. The outdoor space is covered making it work regardless of weather. Very reasonable prices. I had a perfect omelet. The store has fabulous finds but is quite pricey (ex they have a cool display of scented candles but they are $85/ea).
