“Unique Movie Experience- You have to see it to believe it”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

I went last weekend with USF students and watched the Queen of Versailles, which only cost $10 (that's about how much I would spend watching a movie at a multiplex. When I first walked in I was taken with the interior of the Tampa Theater, how detailed everything was. Though its old, it still has its classic charm. When you go to sit down, you look up and you feel you're outdoors cause the ceiling looks like the night sky with stars. This is a great place to go on a date or experience a movie in unique fashion. Before the movie an organist rose from the stage and entertained theater goers prior to the movie starting. They play a lot of indie films that really send an intentional message, I appreciated that working in higher education.

Great tip: Ge there early and get a balcony seat, it really makes the experience that much better.

“Old timey movie house with a helpful website”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

I rate the Tampa Theatre tops because, without it, Tampanians would not see many? any? indie movies or foreign films. So I could ignore the charms of its Wurtltzer and the woes of its cramped seats, but I have to love its charm, impact, and completely helpful website.

“Wonderful old theater”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

I had seen photos of the historic Tampa theater in a magazine on Florida's attractions. I was most interested in the interior of the theater, giving the effect of twinkling stars in the night sky, how the ceiling was made to resemble actually being outdoors in the evening. It was a very imaginative, and must have been quite a remarkable attraction for visitors when it was built.

The theater itself is lovely, plenty of interesting and intriguing architecture of a bygone era, and it had such a wonderful nostalgic and memorable feel, almost like going back in time.

We came early for the movie, in order to hear the 'Mighty Wurlitzer' organ concert before the show. Do make an effort to come early and listen to the organ concert 30 minutes before show time. My father plays the organ and has always talked about these organs, so it was a very fascinating experience, and made me wish he was also there to hear it.

Definitely a movie to remember, we certainly enjoyed our time in this lovely old theater. I hope they are able to keep it running for many more people to enjoy in the future.

“Old School.”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

If you like old school charm you will love the Tampa Theatre. All I remember is that I have seen some odd seeming concerts here. I am not sure who it was but it sure was loud.

“Nostalgia at its best”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

The tickets may be a bit pricey, but this theater is worth the visit. First off, they usually show hard to find, indie films that don't always make it to the corporate "muti-plexes." The seats are "old school," and so is the balcony. What a great place to take a date. Be sure to watch for various film festivals. You can catch a drink at a local bar after the show too. It's well worth the time and money.
