Wife and I were in Tampa and had the day to spend, found #1 Tampa attraction this theatre. Must be nice! Took a cap into town to enjoy the Theatre and the area, looking for a cool blast from the past, some shops to go into, snack on some Ice Cream, light lunch and maybe a drink in the area.

Big disapointment. We found that the #1 attraction is not open for visitors unless you are there at a show time! We walked by, talked to the lady at the counter but the doors were locked and she said we could not even go into the lobby and have a peek. I would have been glad to pay a few bucks to check it out. So on to lunch and shopping, another zero nothing in the area but boarded up buildings and parking garages. We walked south about 10 blocks past the stadium to and finally got down to Hooters for a beer. How nice. We did run into the Mayor, nice guy, he suggsted another area to the east would have been a better choice, not in walking distance though. So after a beer at Hooters we found a cab and went back to the hotel.

Bottom line is that the Theatre might be worth going to, just make sure there is a show going on or you cannot go inside. With the lack of anything going on downtown, don't base your day on this and there is no way this is the #1 attraction in Tampa.

Great local gem that shows eclectic shows. Very ornate theatre and lots of fun. Do not expect to see new releases, but vintage films from a vintage theatre.

The building is beautiful and I'm happy that they have restored so much of it, but it's not a great place to see a concert as the acoustics aren't very good.

I was blown away by this place. The architecture is stunning, a prime example of the type of theatre that was built in the early 20th century. The fact that the Tampa community has managed to rescue and restore this Theatre when so many other cities have lost their downtown theatres says a lot about Tampa. The popcorn is the best! The film line up, both new and classic, is impressive. Highly recommended!

The theater shows classic old movies and books several name performancesa. There's plenty of small downtown restaurants for an inexpensive evening downtown.
