This is a wonderful place for a visit. It is fascinating and educational. We need to all learn how to protect our vanishing resources and wildlife.

“Manatee Heaven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

I have been to the TECO Manatee Viewing Center numerous times over many years, taking children, grandchildren and friends to experience this amazing place. Watching these gentle giants rise and fall in the water can be mesmerizing. In recent years, the Center has added the Mangrove Walk which offers another way to view the manatees farther out in the channel. In addition, the activity room where folks can interact with exhibits about Florida animals is always interesting. One piece of advice: if the weather is warm, as it was this past January, the number of manatees in the channel will be reduced. They only come into the channel, which receives the warm water released by the nearby power plant, if the water in the Gulf is cold. If you want to know before you go, check out the Center's webcam on their website.

“Great place for nature and animal lovers”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

Manatees like warm but not hot water. The waters in canals and larger waterways cool down in the Florida in the winter, and the manatees seek warmer waters. One of large power plants in Tampa attracts quite a number of these animals since the power plant warms the surrounding waters. A boardwalk and trail have been build to make viewing the manatees easy without disturbing them. During cooler weather, you are almost guaranteed to see these magnificent animals in their natural environment. There is an educational center at the entrance. Since the manatee is an endangered species, it is a great chance to view one of natures majestic animals. The best part of it all - It is Free.

“love to watch them on their own terms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 25, 2013

I love to watch wildlife on their OWN terms. I don't like to see animals in cages whether they are underwater cages or not. I know at TECO Viewing Center manatees are monitored by trained observers and when ever one needs assistance the best of the best rescue/medical/rehabilitation team is there promptly. See you soon!
