“Worth a stop, you might see some manatees”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

Recently stopped by this facility on a cold day. There were 6-7 manatees out but they were in and out of the water a lot and many times were not very visible. The place was really crowded. There is signage off the Interstate how to get there. Thanks to Tampa Electric for providing the site so that visitors can see the manatees. Due to the cold weather and a busy schedule we were there a limited time and may have seen more of them had we stayed. Certainly worth a stop. Don't be surprised if there is a big crowd there - parking is somewhat limited.

“Love these gentle "mermaids"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

TECO's Manatee Viewing Center is a great way to get up close to animals. You can see hundreds of the sea cows during the cooler winter months. Today I saw many baby manatees swimming close to their mamas. So cute. You also may see several species of fish including mullet, tarpon, snook, sheep's head, spinner sharks, and even stingrays. If it's a nice calm day, you can get some great pictures. TECO has also created a small nature trail and butterfly garden. It's a completely free attraction that is fun for everyone.

“A pleasant surprist”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

The viewing center was well marked and easy to find. Plenty of parking and it was free!
A short walk to the viewing platform... there were over 200 manatee's in the area today!
Beautiful gentle manatee's plus many other fish. Plan on spending 1 - 1/12 hours walking
and viewing. We ate lunch there, cheap and good.Nice gift shop. Good for all age's...

“Wonderful Manatee viewing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

Close to Tampa, this is a great place to observe manatees. Unfortunately, it is close to the power station so not very pretty. However, there are a lot of manatees to see as well as other fish in the warm waters.

“Well worth the detour (especially with kids)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

This is one of those gems you happen upon and realise how strange our world is.
Follow the signs off I75 for the Manatee Veiwing Centre and very soon your confronted by a huge power generating plant. There nestled alongside is an outlet from the power station feeding clean warm water which is a good habitate for these water creatures. The centre is well laid out with cafe facilities as well as an education area. There is a small gift shop selling most things manatee related, but most all (the day went anyway) there were about 30 to 40 manatees just there swimming, doing what manatees do.
We were lucky I know to see so many but the conditions around there are good so you should see some most days.
Certainly not a day out but worthy of an hour or more.
Almost forgot, it's FREE.
