“Great to see, just nothing else to do.”

It's a long drive from N Tampa to the viewing area. We had hopes that we would be closer or that there would be more to do. It is incredible to see so many manatees in one place. but all you really see are a bunch of humps rolling around in the dark water. Also be sure you go during the winter - this is when the manatees really gather here for the warm water put out by the electric company.

“You have got to visit here at least once”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

While we're not "Save the Manatee" types, we enjoyed visiting the Manatee viewing center. So interested in walking the boardwalk up to see manatees we almost missed the small "nature center" building. Small but informational. Additionally there is a boardwalk so we took a nice walk out into a small bay just off Tampa Bay after walking back to the car for a hat & sunscreen, it is Florida after all. Made for a nice hour and a half. We weren't rushed and enjoyed a pleasant morning. Make sure to check dates, they are only open Nov - early April when the manatees come & congregate in the warm waters. We actually saw a few young/small manatees and even 2 white ones - did not know they came in that color. We';ve had many opportunities to see manatees in Florida, but it was still an enjoyable morning and glad we did it.

It is near my fishing area so I get to see things year round. I like the set up and gift shop. Nice trail to walk out across from the electric plant. Always a great place for kids and visitors.

“A must-do when you have out of town guests”

What do you do with your Christmastime guests when everyone's too tired to do something truly physical but tired of looking at one another? Head to TECO to see the manatees! It's now a family tradition.

“Excellent, educational and fun for all ages”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

As a diver I'm fond of Manatees, and dove with them in Crystal River last year. No in-water experience here, but there is a great education center and even a gift shop. Go in the colder months for the best viewing opportunities - we have seen well over 50 manatees on a good day. there's an overhead viewing pier near the Education Center and a long pier that goes out into the water with mangroves on either side. They do a good job of showcasing the wildlife, and there's plenty of free parking, and well maintained. A short drive from I-75. TECO did a nice job on this.
