“Superb service”

Hazel, the hotel" at your service" operator helped me tremendously when I needed to print out information for a meeting. She went beyond expectations to get my documents to me. She responded to my problem immediately.

Room Tip: The water view is great.

I tend to look for higher priced, higher rated hotels being a frequent traveler, since they typically have more to do than just sit in your room and watch tv. Rather than drawing out the personals, I'll get to it. The first set of room keys didn't work so being at the top floor, we had to come down to get them remade, not a huge ordeal, but inconvenient. The room itself was small and looked average like a $60 to $80 a night room. Nothing fancy or out of the ordinary as far as bathroom or furnishings, and I would definitely not refer to this as a luxury hotel, unless the only thing luxurious was the price. There was small pieces of hair all over the bathroom floor. There were feathers everywhere in the bedding, leaking out the sides of both beds, and a couple of small blood stains on the white sheet of my kids bed that looked like a scab or something rubbed open. Although they felt comfortable at first, three of the four of us sleeping on the beds woke up with severe back pain, so the beds are a definite will not do this again. Now, this is one of the most annoying pet peeves I have at any hotel...they give you a Keurig or similar coffeemaker in your room, you spend about $300 a night on this room, and they left ONE (not two or four...but ONE) condiment packet by the coffeemaker. I spent $300 on the room $24 for parking, hundreds in the hotel restaurants and I get $.25 cents worth of sugar and cream and only one of us gets to have a cup of coffee in the room! Cheap, Cheap, Cheap. Ok, now the restaurants... For dinner we ate at the Champions Bar and Grill in the lobby. Food was ok, but it took almost 20 minutes to get our check and we asked 3 different people for it while waiting. Breakfast at the Waterside Grill was better. A nice selection on the buffet, but for about $60 for breakfast I would expect nothing short of decent. If you don't like crowds, check the event schedule in the area. There was a game going on across the street, and the traffic and lines of cars to get in an out of the hotel was frustrating. With all the nice hotels in the area, I would pick a similar one over this one.

Room Tip: If you don't ask for a water view room, it probably isn't going to be that enjoyable of a vi...

Just spent a very long week in Tampa on a meeting planner site visit. I ended my week by joining my husband who was in town for a separate conference here at the Marriott. To my surprise, he had planned a day at the onsite spa, dinner at Jackson's Bistro and Sushi Bar which is walking distance and drinks at Marriott's full lobby bar. The Marriott is perfectly convenient with all the onsite amenities as well as it's close proximity to so much that Tampa has to offer. Special thanks to Susan at the spa who helped make my Valentines Day surprise extra special. She is a doll. Also, to Alex (red coat valet) for helping get the last minute limo to the airport. What a perfect end to a perfect weekend. I will definitely recommend the Tampa Marriott Waterside to my friends and colleagues.

The location of the property to the convention center, waterfront park and restaurants makes it an excellent location for business travel. I found the staff to be attentive and helpful through all phases of my trip.

This is a nice property with an excellent restaurant (Riverside Grill) and an impressive spread in the concierge lounge. It's a big conference hotel and has that sort of impersonal feel to it. My complaints are that my Marriott Miles status did not seem to be consistently recognized (e.g. no newspaper, even after asking for it; no indication that the lounge was closed on the weekends which is most unfortunate given lack of food options in the immediate vicinity). There could be more options for quick (e.g. grab and go) food--little available in the gift shop and the Starbucks is not a "real Starbucks" but rather a stand that sells Starbucks coffee that closes at 1:30. (There is a real Starbucks across the street in the Embassy Suites).

The warmth of the staff and the outdoors, the excellent service and food quality, and a convenient location helped to make our convention of 300 attendees a success. Carl in the Concierge Lounge took care of my Board members and their spouses (except when the Lounge was closed on the weekend); the Concierge (Fay) and Front Desk Manager (Robert) helped me resolve an issue with a local vendor; Aleksandra in Convention Services could not have taken better care of us; and every person we came in contact with--from A-V to Banquests to room set ups to food outlets--were the best. The Pastry chef gets a special shout out for the amazing mini-dessert samplers.

The guest and meeting rooms were comfortable, and the the streetcar and trolley access across the street made it easy to travel to Ybor City and Channelside. Hockey games and events at the Times Forum are just across the street, as well. The $19 breakfast buffet in the Waterside Grill is a great value with a variety of fresh fruit, cooked-to-order on omelets, pastries, coffee/juice, and the usual breakfast items. Champions has good sports bar food and multiple screens for multiple sports events.

This is a true gem in the Marriott collection.
