“An excellent location for our annual convention”
Reviewed February 15, 2014

The warmth of the staff and the outdoors, the excellent service and food quality, and a convenient location helped to make our convention of 300 attendees a success. Carl in the Concierge Lounge took care of my Board members and their spouses (except when the Lounge was closed on the weekend); the Concierge (Fay) and Front Desk Manager (Robert) helped me resolve an issue with a local vendor; Aleksandra in Convention Services could not have taken better care of us; and every person we came in contact with--from A-V to Banquests to room set ups to food outlets--were the best. The Pastry chef gets a special shout out for the amazing mini-dessert samplers.

The guest and meeting rooms were comfortable, and the the streetcar and trolley access across the street made it easy to travel to Ybor City and Channelside. Hockey games and events at the Times Forum are just across the street, as well. The $19 breakfast buffet in the Waterside Grill is a great value with a variety of fresh fruit, cooked-to-order on omelets, pastries, coffee/juice, and the usual breakfast items. Champions has good sports bar food and multiple screens for multiple sports events.

This is a true gem in the Marriott collection.

We recently stayed here while attending a conference. We made the mistake of trying to book this hotel too late and we were only able to book our first night here. We moved over to the adjacent Embassy Suites - review to follow - for the following 3 nights.

Our room was overlooking the waterfront on the 15th floor with a perfect view. The room was spacious and the beds were amazingly comfortable with lovely white linens. In hindsight, we will definitely choose to stay here at the Marriott instead of the Embassy Suites the next time we are staying in downtown Tampa. The reception staff, bellman and valet staff seemed much more professional here at the Marriott, and they also have a designated concierge to help with finding things to do. This property felt much more like a high-end hotel as compared to the Embassy Suites, which has the added perks of more space and a buffet breakfast included.

The river walk area is very nice as well and there is a trolley that will take you to nearby Ybor City if you are looking to shop and see another nearby area if you don't have a car. We had a car and also went over to the Hyde Park area across the river for dinner. The restaurant scene is rather sparse in the area considering the large conference crowds so we were looking for alternatives since we had a car. See my restaurant reviews if you are interested in finding great Italian restaurants a short trip away.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor overlooking the waterfront.

The staff was always helpful and considerate. The hotel is well situated down by the convention center and is easily accessible. It's a beautiful tower and lovely inside; well maintained throughout.
Maid Service on the 21st floor was outstanding. They made sure the room was well kept the whole time.
The Concierge Lounge was well maintained. Carl Fuller, Jr was very attentive to our needs at breakfast. He ensured that the buffet was well stocked and well presented.
Meals at the Waterside Restaurant were delicious.

Only real complaint is that cigar smoking on the patio overlooking the channel made it impossible for my wife to sit out there most of the time.

Room Tip: All the upper floor rooms have good views.

Stayed in a city view room that felt like a water-view room. It was on the side of the building facing the cruise ship terminals. The beds were extremely comfortable and in line with what I expect at a Marriot. Overall, a good place to stay if you're taking a cruise out of Tampa. If you're in decent shape and don't have a ton of luggage, then you can walk to the cruise ship terminals. This hotel is a 20 minute walk to the Norwegian cruise terminal and a 15 minute walk to the Carnival terminal. My biggest gripes are the cost of the food in the restaurants, the flimsy pillows, and the fact that one of the bartenders in the sports bar was more interested in checking her cell phone than serving patrons.

I experienced the most wonderful customer service ever at Champions bar. I was down on my luck and having an awful week, but everything changed when I walked in this bar. I was greeted with kindness and enthusiasm by both bartenders, Hans and John. They were wonderful and couldn't have done a better job. They should be valued for their quick service, attention and personable attitudes. A huge thanks to both these upstanding employees!

Always have enjoyed the Marriott but am partially disappointed this time. Room was very small and the feathers of the mattress topper were everywhere under the sheets! Doesn't seem that the room saw attention for some while. Room service was horrible! Waited an hour after severAl calls only to be told after the third time there was no record of my order. After another half hour finally received some food. There was a big convention and maybe wasnt staffed properly. Aside from that the pool area never disappoints and great location downtown. overall a nice stay

I stayed here for work in November 2013. Was given a room in the concierge area.. so got great service, free breakfast/evening cocktails overlooking Tampa Bay.. would recommend that.. The view from my room on the 24th floor was amazing as well.. could literally see all of the bay.
The check-in and check out service were very efficient.
The only downside was the room decor, overall interior and exterior decor of the room and toiletries provided in the bathroom... all of the finishings looked very cheap.
Also when there was some extra charges on my invoice that I called them to enquire- I got really HORRIBLE customer service on phone!! Very rude !!

Room Tip: Try to take advantage of their concierge floor service.
