Had dim sum lunch there last week...Tampa is not a dim sum Mecca, and we have tried several places both in Tampa and St Pete's...

China Yuan is the best we have had...the place is nothing fancy, but they have their dim sum basics down :)

Good quality, nice portions and good service.

Shrimp dumplings, sui mai, steamed pork ribs, fried taro root, sticky rice...all good!

Would recommend and will go back for sure :)

I was introduced to China Yuan by my boss. He lived 7 years in Taiwan and he knows Chinese cuisine. He speaks fluent Chinese and he gets a little special treatment there. Hence, I think we may get a little better food according to the other reviews I have seen here for this restaurant. This is not like every other Chinese restaurant. They have life seafood in tanks and you can pick your own. I'd rather not look at my dinner while its alive so I just eat what we order off the menu. If nothing else, you must try their eggplant casserole. It is amazingly delicious. The duck is great. The beef and pork are good. If you are adventurous, give it a go. If you are finicky about your food, this may not be the best place for you!

Nothing fancy, like real Chinatown places...except for lobsters, live fish, sometimes geoduck and other live seafood.

This is our family favorite. The owner and his wife get their asian vegetables from their family's farm in Plant City, FL. Ask what is freshest: snow pea tips, hollow vegetable, baby bock choy, Chinese broccoli...or look at what the regulars at the next table are ordering.

Some knucklehead complained about dim sum (tea lunch) not being served after 4:00pm? Lunch usually stops at 3:00pm at most every other authentic Chinese place in the country! Dim sum is a steal (but no carts like TC Choy's). Take a look at the menu with photos and order a bunch, you won't be sorry about the quality nor the bill.

Some other recommendations for dinner or lunch: honey roast pork; best pan fried dumplings in FL; honey walnut shrimp; noodle dishes; green/long beans spicy; and, if you are a real ethnic eater the beef/beef tendon hot pot...almost forgot, my favorite fired rice in the world with dried scallop, pine nuts and egg (get it and don't worry when you see that it's white, not colored with soy sauce)...this is grown ups fried rice.

Drink beer or tea (who goes to an asian restaurant looking for wine?) and enjoy real Chinese food at China Yuan. You'll be saying no to fake, corporate, American, fast food, slippery stuff that get passed off as Chinese food.

Ate at China Yuan on a Sunday and was hosted at a dinner by a Chinese businessman (from Singapore with huge US business interests) in San Francisco the following Wednesday at the place he frequents. Yes, the shrimp were bigger and the place a lot fancier...but the flavors identical at 1/2 the price.

Went specifically for Dim Sum and we weren't disappointed. All was excellent. The restaurant is pretty basic, but the food and service were great. We'll definitely return.

Ok it's not San Francisco or NYC but for Tampa the dim sum was tasty.
Typical Chinese decor. Nice. Fun
