“Authentic Mexican, interesting atmosphere”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

This restaurant is not recommended to those looking for a 5 star plated experience. Taco Bus' charm really comes from its authentic Mexican cuisine and urban rugged atmosphere. This isn't fine dining, it's Mexican food from a bus. But again, this is all part of the experience.

A good point is that this location on Hillsborough Avenue, which is the original, is open 24 hours, so there have been a number of times that I have stopped by after an outing to Ybor City or for a late night snack with friends when nothing else is open.

As far as the food, the taste and presentation is consistent and remains to be great. The menu has a wide variety of entrees to choose from and breaks the menu down into your actual entree (being a taco, burrito, quesadilla, etc) and then to your choice of meat and sides. Another important note is that Taco Bus offers a great variety of both vegetarian and vegan options on their menu and includes tofu as a topping. (I had originally heard of this eatery by way of my vegan friends, in fact.)

Finally, the prices are quite reasonable. Each entree is about $7.99 and some of the more exotic fare could go up to $9 or $10, but I will say that for the portion sizes, it is definitely reasonable. *Warning*- the burritos are HUGE!

My only recommendation, however, is if you are in a large group, PLEASE be patient. This is a walk-up order restaurant and that sort of service is not designed for large parties, but it certainly can be done. I recently attended a birthday dinner and the employees certainly did their best to accommodate us with so many orders.

“Best food in town.”
Reviewed October 31, 2012

My mom lives in Missouri, and everytime she comes to visit the first place we have to stop is Taco Bus. It is truly some of the best food in town, and I'm so glad they now have a location downtown. There's nothing like biking on a cool fall day and getting some vegan steak tacos!

“Not worth even the cheap prices”

How many tablespoons of oil?
What are these strange puddles of ..sewage? ...grease?
What is that rotten smell by the pick up window?
When was this table last cleaned?
If you don't want to know the answers to these, and other, questions, then don't visit the Taco Bus.

“A Walk On The Wild Side”
Reviewed October 29, 2012

It's impressive that such an unpretentious little ethnic food truck permanetly parked in a definitely "not" upscale neighborhood can be rated here alongside Tampa legends like Bern's and The Columbia. But it's suprisingly true! And you know why? People love it.

Count me as a convert. I drove past the E. Hillsboroough location scores of times with the windows up and the doors locked. It sounds good; it looks good and it smells wonderful: but is it safe? It's open 24/7 and I've heard late night customers worry that the loud noises they hear might be gunfire but rationalize to themselves that a car must have backfired. Sure, that's what it was.

The food is super; the prices less that you ought to pay for such quality; the sense of being in on a great secret is priceless, although with all the exposure its received from the Food Channel, the secret is out! I'm so happy I finally gave it a shot. You shoould too.
