Owner description: Experience 12,000 years of powerful stories at the Tampa Bay History Center. During your journey, you will stroll through a 1920s-era cigar store, row up the Hillsborough River, ride along with a cattle drive and learn about the early exploration of Florida. This waterfront building, with an eclectic Museum Store and the signature Columbia Cafe, is a memorable experience for families, history enthusiasts, Tampa area natives and beyond.

The TBHc is a new museum in Tampa that showcases the history of Tampa and Florida. The different levels have exhibits on the Spanish explorers, the native culture before and after colonization, cattle culture in Florida, sports in Tampa, and a great exhibit on the cigar industry. There are also several movies that are well produced, especially for a museum like this.

Also in the center is a cafe version of the world famous Columbia Restaurant that serves some of their most famous dishes and sandwiches. The cafe is open even after the museum closes and you can dine inside or outside by the river.

We found the modern displays in this small museum to be very well done. Keep in mind that it focuses on the history of the Tampa Bay area. Exhibits feature the local Native Americans, cigar industry, agriculture and cattle ranching. When we went, there was also a special exhibit on the Civil War. The movie was quite good and combined video with animatronics which made it more powerful (and more interesting to the teens). They have an area that looks like it is used for activities for younger children, so you may want to check their schedule if you have little ones. Probably not worth a special trip from out of town, but an interesting couple hours if you happen to be in the area (can easily combine it with Channelside and/or the Aquarium).

After reading the three 5 star review we visited this newly opened museum. Frankly I was quite disappointed, not only with the museum, but also with those exaggerated reviews. It was just a simple, plain and small museum. How cold someone rated as one of the best museums he/she ever seen? We spent less than one hour in the museum. There were only few visitors that day, not sure how they could cover the cost. Maybe that was one of the reasons why the tickets were kind of expensive.

What a wonderful way to learn about the early people in the State of Florida. I felt that the displays and presentations were well worth the trip. They portrayed the life and times of the settlers .It made me realize what injustice we place on the Indians. My two grandchildren were quite taken with the information about the Indians and how they lived and information regarding their culture in the early times of their state. The lifelike figures made things very easier to visualize. I am happy that my daughter can take my grandchildren to such a great place of learning.

The restaurant located within the center was really a nice place to refresh one's self and enjoy each others company. Delicious food as well!

I am so not a history buff but married to one. I am dragged onto history museums everywhere! However this one was fascinating to me. The movies were extremely well done. The interactive exhibits were state of the art. It really made floridas history come alive! Well done!!!!
