This is not just a bridge for crossing the bay .The old span is used for fishing. The views are wonderful . Come by at the right time and see a cruise ship pass right under you.

Not really a place to linger, the new high bridge is worth the toll just for the view on a clear sunny day. You drive to the top like on a roller coaster and suddenly you're on top of the world for a brief moment.
once you go down on the east side, park and take a walk on the fishing pier. Very nice

But then what? Just go over the bridge and that's it? Plan in going somewhere whole taking that bridge. Then it's more exciting.

This bridge is very unique. If you are heading south on 75 it is worth the detour to take this ride. The traffic will not be any worse than what is on 75. There are two fishing piers, one pier is on the north side and the other is on the south side. In addition, you get a short view of Ft. Desoto State Park. Also, you might want to stop in St. Petersburg. Great city with views and restaurants. If you are lucky you might see a cruise ship leaving or returning to port. Usually you get to see a container ship. The architect of the bridge is outstanding.

This is just a nice alternative to going south on 75.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge connects Manatee County and Pinellas County crossing over Tampa Bay. The bridge is high and affords a beautiful view of Tampa Bay and surrounding waters. The bridge itself is interesting painted in yellow, and at night lights beam up to light up the support poles which can be seen from quite a distance. In nice weather the waters around the bridge are filled with boaters, parasailors, fisherman and all types of water sports. The drive across the bridge is very scenic, but beware - the bridge closes with very high winds.
