“Kayak the Hillsborough for an amazing natural experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2013

First off, YES, there are alligators. But NO, they don't bother you. Many, many small children have taken this trip, and everyone comes back safely. If little children can take this trip, so can you!

There is probably no better way to see the beautiful flowers, birds and reptiles of this area of Florida than in a quiet kayak on the Hillsborough River. The birds and flowers are gorgeous, plus paddling by a sleeping alligator who opens his eye as you paddle by is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. This is something you can comfortably do alone if you're in the area on business for a few days and want to try something new. There are plenty of families on the river - not so many as to be noisy, but enough that if you were to get into any trouble, someone would be along in 5 minutes. Google "Hillsborough River outfitters" for a list of kayak rental places - they drive you and the kayak to a drop-off, and then you paddle back to the outfitter.

“Best West Central Florida River”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

We live in Tampa and the Hillsborough River has become our favorite break from everyday life. Camping in the park is as good as it get's. A canoe ride anywhere on the river brings you within inches of nature. Everything from intimidating gators to delicate dragonflys. Keep an eye out for swimming critters, fish and turtles.

“Take a canoe ride down the river”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2013

I have been canoeing down the Hillsborough River since I was a child & recently took my husband out to experience what I used to do. He loved it just as much as I always had. It is a great place to take in nature, watch turtles, fish, & gators. Oh the gators! :)

“Best bike ride”

Took a bike ride along the Hillsborough river near 301.
Smooth pavement, nice scenery, peaceful, and alot of the bike path was shaded.

“Movie and dinner”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

One stop dinner and movie. Food wasn't bad and the service is well timed with the start of the movie. Reservations are a must - place isn't that big.
