I've never had anything bad at Ocean Prime and their cocktails are amazing. It's pretty expensive for dinner but they have lots of bar and patio seating so it's also nice for just drinks and appetizers. The crowd is always upscale, eclectic, and fun.

When we visited the place we did so without making reservations and were told to wait for some minutes. To while away time, we decided to sit at the bar, and then ordered for an appetizer and wine. We didn't wait up to the specified amount of minutes before the food was ready and we were seated. I had pork and it had to be said the dinner was great, and would have been better if we had done without snacking earlier on. The service was great and our waiter was very friendly.

We booked a table on the recommendation of a friend. We arrived at 7:45 for an 8:15 table but made to wait until 8:40. The waiter seemed rather disinterested when we first arrived at the table. I ordered a medium rare steak that came medium/medium well and initially they questioned whether I actually wanted it done properly. Eventually a new steak arrived whilst my wife enjoyed her meal.

Service notwithstanding, this wasn't fine dining despite the prices. It's a high volume, pumped up steak house and in my view there are better value restaurants.

At the moment this is probably the best meal you're going to get in Tampa, food, service and ambiance wise.

Four of us dined here recently on a business dinner so the purse strings were not tightened, which was great because we really got a chance to see what OP was all about. We had a reservation and asked for a booth upon arrival and the request was honored. I was grateful for that as the restaurant was a bit loud and if we had been at a table out in the general population I don't believe we would have been able to hear each other very easily.

We started with the goat cheese ravioli which were almost like dumplings and they were served in a delicious light butter sauce. Our dining companions split the surf & turf appetizer of scallops and short ribs and said both were outstanding. The fresh bread and butter that was served before dinner was also delicious. For entrees around the table we had the snapper, salmon, crab cakes and Chilean sea bass. Everything was superb. Sides are served family style (although each person did get a small accompaniment to their entree on their plates, either rice or corn, etc) and we tried the asparagus and corn side items. Both were very good.

We were too stuffed for dessert but everyone either had tea, coffee or cappucino and again all were exceptional.

Service was very attentive, our waiter was Shawn and he seemed to know the menu as well as the wine list very intimately. He made very solid, intelligent suggestions and did not seem to be "selling" us on the most expensive dishes, moreover just offering advice on what entree paired well with what wine, etc.

Attire is dressy for Florida but it is a special occasion place (and the prices reflect this).

You may also dine in the bar area (live music on the piano is surprisingly modern) or out on their patio which overlooks a small lake.

Bathroom was extremely clean as one would expect of an establishment such as this.

I did not need to use valet (which is $5 plus tip) as I found parking very easily.

The restaurant is next to a Crate and Barrel store so if you need to do some walking around after dinner to get the food moving, you've got a built in place to go!

Also nearby are the shops and nightlife of Bay Street and International Plaza Mall. They are walking distance but people do tend to drive like crazies around the mall parking lot so you may want to drive.

I do not think you will be disappointed with your experience at Ocean Prime.

Everything on the menu is fresh and fabulous. The service is impeccable. Don't miss out on the tuna appetizer, it is to die for. Great deal on Sunday wines, 50% off on all bottles under $100
