First off, let me just say that this is the first negative review I've ever given a hotel. I'm not picky and I typically think that most people who post negative reviews are either germaphobes or the type that complain about EVERYTHING no matter where they are. That being said, just... wow. This place is in seriously bad shape. Because we know the area pretty well, we weren't surprised by how bad the neighborhood was so I'm not going to bother commenting on something the hotel operator has no control over.) My husband and I arrived late on a Friday night and found the front door locked (hooray for security) but were quickly greeted by the front desk clerk who was fabulously nice. Since it was dark I didn't really get a look at the front of the building before we went in, but I did notice that the attached restaurant was closed and for lease...generally not a good sign. Anyway, the lobby was spartan but decently clean and the nice front desk clerk gave us our room key and our A/C remote and told us that our room was on the second floor. The first thing I noticed on the way to the room was how filthy the carpet on the stairs was. It looked as if it hadn't seen a vacuum in at least a year and the carpet itself had a sticky feel to it (it was trying to pull off my flip flops - ugh) as if it were in a movie theater. Next we noticed how unbelievably hot and humid it was on the second floor of the hotel... I'm from South Florida, which is pretty much ground zero for hot and humid, and let me just say that this place felt like a swamp in the hallway. I half expected to see moss growing out of the walls when we rounded the hallway corner to where our room was. The room itself was equally as rough. The carpet was so bad that I didn't feel comfortable walking on it without my shoes (and I frequently run barefoot through my office parking lot when its raining to protect my high heels from water damage), the TV was an ancient flat screen with an awful, pixelated picture and the bathroom... well, lets just say that I've seen frat house bathrooms that are less skeevey. I even checked the sheets and covers to make sure there weren't any creepy crawlies lurking about... something totally out of character for me. The next morning I went down to check out the continental breakfast, which in all actuality I thought wasn't too bad for a hotel of this caliber (hard boiled eggs, egg patties, some sausage links, cereals, yogurt, toast and juices) although I did find it odd that as things ran out they didn't seem very eager to refill them even though there was still more than an hour to go on the breakfast service time. We didn't use the pool at all, because we had other activities planned all weekend, so I can't comment on the condition of it. I did notice that the outside of the building had been repainted and that they had simply painted over the light fixtures rather than tape them off of take them down, which added to the "wow this place is a dump" ambiance that this place had going on. In the end, I had paid in advance, so we stayed for the entire duration of our trip (3 days) but I would never, ever book here again, especially considering that there are other much nicer hotels in the immediate area which are just about the same price (La Quinta, for example.)
