Owner description: Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is home to more than 1300 animals and famous for having one of the most beautiful, tropical zoological settings in the world. The Zoo brings together animals and visitors to create unforgettable, natural connections. Guests get closer to wildlife than ever before by touching a giant tortoise, feeding a giraffe, getting nose-to-horn with an Indian rhino, hand-to-fin with slippery stingrays and more! Families can also splash in water play areas, feel thrills on rides and take in educational shows. Love manatees? The Zoo is the only place in Tampa where guests can see Florida manatees year round. At the David A. Straz Jr. Manatee Hospital, the Zoo’s veterinary and animal-care staff treat sick, injured and orphaned manatees, and return them to the wild after rehabilitation. The Zoo also cares for the most diverse group of Florida wildlife anywhere, and has won numerous awards for animal preservation.

“Nice time for all ages”
Reviewed April 22, 2014

The zoo is very diverse and one can tell there are constant improvements being made. There are nice rides as well for young children including waster bumper boats, a roller coaster, and small airplane ride. The log ride is short but plan to get soaked. For that reason we did not ride it, otherwise it would have been fun.

We had a $3 off coupon / person we used from our hotel. The sea lion exhibit is $2 extra .

We ate at the safari grill and ate a whole pizza which looked like a large DIGirno frozen bake in the oven types. The loaded nachos were good for $9.

I saw some animals which I had never seen before which is always a plus.

There are a few places with fountains coining out of the ground for the 2-3 yr old crowd so bring a swim suit for them.

It took us 5 hours to view the entire zoo.

“Rainy Friday”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

We went to the zoo on Good Friday and had a fantastic time. Only problem (and through no fault of the zoo) we got caught in a torrential downpour around 2 in the afternoon. The sea lion exhibit is only there until May 31st, so be sure to check them out. They are a real treat! The animals were all amazing to see, and my kids enjoyed reading the little facts and information about each of the creatures. We missed out on a few exhibits and activities due to the rain (Safari, Giraffe feeding, etc.), but did manage to spot some African Wildlife from afar. The Manatee exhibit was impressive as well, and very informative. What a great experience for kids!

“I understand why this is top-rated. Wonderful!”
Reviewed April 18, 2014

We had such a wonderful time at this zoo. My son was just under 4 at the time we went, and he loved the roller coasters and the kid area, but all of the animal exhibits are awesome.
Go mid-week to beat the crowds.
By the way, I met the SWEETEST goat there. It followed me around like a cat, loving up on me. Was crazy! Didn't know that could happen lol.
We had hoped to return on this most recent trip to TPA, but little guy fell ill so we missed it. It's a definite for our next trip though!

OH, also, a big plus for special needs families. They have a special planning map on their site for Autistic and other kids who need a PECS-style planning guide. My son doesn't use PECS anymore but I sincerely appreciated the effort and inclusion that showed on their part.

“Best Park in Tampa for Children under 10.”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

If you want the best of rides for this young age group and a great place for strollers and wheel chair kids this is it. It has roller coaster, floom ride, train, and little water park sprinklers for them. There are manatees, fish, birds, baby elephants, lots of animals. It the cheapest place to feed a giraffe . Have kids dress in swim wear, flip flops, you also need sneakers to walk this park. Sun screen. Mom's this is your park. You will love this park. It a compact version of the Bigger Theme park down the road :)

“worth the money”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

It was kind of expensive to get in here but there are nice rides in the zoo that are not an extra charge, so it kind of evens it out. The grounds are pretty and there is a lot to do within the zoo.
