Owner description: Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is home to more than 1300 animals and famous for having one of the most beautiful, tropical zoological settings in the world. The Zoo brings together animals and visitors to create unforgettable, natural connections. Guests get closer to wildlife than ever before by touching a giant tortoise, feeding a giraffe, getting nose-to-horn with an Indian rhino, hand-to-fin with slippery stingrays and more! Families can also splash in water play areas, feel thrills on rides and take in educational shows. Love manatees? The Zoo is the only place in Tampa where guests can see Florida manatees year round. At the David A. Straz Jr. Manatee Hospital, the Zoo’s veterinary and animal-care staff treat sick, injured and orphaned manatees, and return them to the wild after rehabilitation. The Zoo also cares for the most diverse group of Florida wildlife anywhere, and has won numerous awards for animal preservation.

If you live in Tampa Bay and have small kids, annual pass is the way to go. Lots to see and do and most of it is in the shade! Safari ride must have been my favorite part...

If you haven't been to the zoo in awhile, then treat yourself. The Lowry Park Zoo has added more animals and more things to do. It can all be done in a day if you start early enough. The walking is easy, and the maps get you where you need to be. Great for kids and adults of all ages. Be sure to see the monkeys -- they can entertain for hours.

Superb layout and access to view and interact with animals. Two bird enclosed cages where a person can purchase food and feed the birds. My 5 year old granddaughter loved feeding the Lorikeets that perched on her arm, hand and even on her head! The entire interaction was safe. There's a great goat feeding/petting area and train, banana planes, bumper boats, and pony rides for the very young children in the Wallaroo Station Area.

Florida's LPZ belongs to the AZA and has a long history of exchange with the San Diego Zoo in California. It's a gem of a zoo! Make sure to spend a full 3 hours, and see all of the areas. Take an animal ride (ponys and camels). Learn the difference between an African and Asian Rhino, see the Okapis, enjoy the wonderful aviary, and find all the babies this spring! Not only are the animals well loved and cared for, but also the docents are fantastic so make sure to find someone in a marine blue shirt to enhance your experience. Enjoy the sky ride at sunset on one of the LPZ's summer nights! Get a family annual pass and enjoy the zoo year-round. Check the list of participating zoos around the nation; perhaps your membership will be honored elsewhere. Enjoy!

The Tampa Zoo is a great place for kids and parents of all ages. It is located a short drive from downtown Tampa. Unlike other zoos, this one is set in a "tropical" setting with easy access for those with strollers. It is kid friendly and easy for small children to view the animals, feed giraffes and birds. The children's zoo (within the zoo) is a highlight for our grandkids. There are some rides that the kids always look forward to.
