Owner description: Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is home to more than 1300 animals and famous for having one of the most beautiful, tropical zoological settings in the world. The Zoo brings together animals and visitors to create unforgettable, natural connections. Guests get closer to wildlife than ever before by touching a giant tortoise, feeding a giraffe, getting nose-to-horn with an Indian rhino, hand-to-fin with slippery stingrays and more! Families can also splash in water play areas, feel thrills on rides and take in educational shows. Love manatees? The Zoo is the only place in Tampa where guests can see Florida manatees year round. At the David A. Straz Jr. Manatee Hospital, the Zoo’s veterinary and animal-care staff treat sick, injured and orphaned manatees, and return them to the wild after rehabilitation. The Zoo also cares for the most diverse group of Florida wildlife anywhere, and has won numerous awards for animal preservation.

“Go early!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013

a bit out of the way. parking has improved. Need to go early in the dya if you want to see the animals active. there is a splash park for the kiddies, so bring a change of clothes to save your self the stress of trying to keep them dry!

Nice selection of animals. We were surprised how clean and non smelly it was. Nice layout! Liked it BETTER then our Zoo Miami!!!! Nice to have a few rides inside also!! Water ride cooled us off as well as shady trees.

“For the sake of the animals!”
Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

Please be aware what you are supporting! My husband and I have gone to plenty of different zoos and parks that have animals, but never have the animals seemed so depressed. The two tigers and the one elephant paced, and appeared sick and looked very unhappy. Please considered all the reviews before encouraging this zoo to continue to operate under such poor conditions, for you and your family's sake as well as those animals.

“Monkeys worth the trip”
Reviewed August 13, 2013

The Zoo was clean and reasonably priced. They had a variety of animals but one of the few zoos were they had a play area for the monkeys. The monkeys were hilarious!!! It almost felt like they were playing to the crowd. My children are still talking about it! Worth the trip.

“It's a zoo...”
Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

Having heard of and reading about this particular zoo I was expecting something more. But folks its just a zoo! The animal exhibits were nice, but I also have the National Zoo near me, and perhaps that's why I wasn't impressed. The rides are mediocre at best, and that's what my 7 year old said... And a word o the wise, do not ride the flume ride until you're ready to leave. The three of us were soaked through our undergarments from the ride and unfortunately, it was the first ride we went on.
