Owner description: ZooTampa at Lowry Park is home to more than 1300 animals and famous for having one of the most beautiful, tropical zoological settings in the world. The Zoo brings together animals and visitors to create unforgettable, natural connections. Guests get closer to wildlife than ever before by touching a giant tortoise, feeding a giraffe, getting nose-to-horn with an Indian rhino, hand-to-fin with slippery stingrays and more! Families can also splash in water play areas, feel thrills on rides and take in educational shows. Love manatees? The Zoo is the only place in Tampa where guests can see Florida manatees year round. At the David A. Straz Jr. Manatee Hospital, the Zoo’s veterinary and animal-care staff treat sick, injured and orphaned manatees, and return them to the wild after rehabilitation. The Zoo also cares for the most diverse group of Florida wildlife anywhere, and has won numerous awards for animal preservation.

Visited last year in 2012, there were way too many strollers. We went and wasn't. Told that the park would be closing in only 2 hours until we were already in and paid. I was disappointed in the size if the pens the animals are in, they seam very small and the animals looked board, I felt very bad that I had paid money to see these animals. They need more stimulation if they are going to be kept in this small pense. I will not return and support this.

Well laid out, lots to see and a reasonable price to get in. Went there on public bus, it stops outside

Wow, has this zoo grown since I last been here in the early 2000's. Their fish and reptile displays are fantastic! Food is a little over priced, but most attraction food is. Wish they would get in some more animals. Rides are taking up way to much space.

It's dirty, disheveled & poorly maintained. Basically, it needs a major facelift. The only saving grace? The penguins & the monkeys, of course! It's a shame & surprising since so many tourists come here for the weather & this COULD be a great outdoor activity. And in a major city in Florida..for shame, Tampa! Quit giving $ incentives to sports teams & invest in something EVERYONE enjoys!!

We were very excited about visiting this zoo after reading it was rated #1 by Parents Magazine. Our first impression was that the grounds were beautiful. Lots of pretty foliage and really nice walking trails. But it ended there. There was an overall lack of animals/exhibits and the ones they did have were either dirty (the aquariums) or the animals themselves were too far away (elephants, zebras, giraffes). The icing on the cake was the fact that they charged $8.50 for a hot dog on top of the $70.00 it cost my family of 3 to enter. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. I enjoyed walking around for a couple of hours on their trails and if the entry price was $10 or even $15 I would not have minded so much but at $30 for adults and $20 for children it is simply not worth it. We should have checked out the Big Cat Rescue instead and will do so next time we are in the Tampa area.
