Owner description: Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo is home to more than 1300 animals and famous for having one of the most beautiful, tropical zoological settings in the world. The Zoo brings together animals and visitors to create unforgettable, natural connections. Guests get closer to wildlife than ever before by touching a giant tortoise, feeding a giraffe, getting nose-to-horn with an Indian rhino, hand-to-fin with slippery stingrays and more! Families can also splash in water play areas, feel thrills on rides and take in educational shows. Love manatees? The Zoo is the only place in Tampa where guests can see Florida manatees year round. At the David A. Straz Jr. Manatee Hospital, the Zoo’s veterinary and animal-care staff treat sick, injured and orphaned manatees, and return them to the wild after rehabilitation. The Zoo also cares for the most diverse group of Florida wildlife anywhere, and has won numerous awards for animal preservation.

Fed lettuce to the giraffes, was in time to watch the orangutans get a snack thrown to them, and the bird show was cute and informative. Would recommend this zoo if you are in Tampa.

“Worth visiting”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Ample parking, reasonable price (coupons available), many animals to see, able to pet and feed some of the animals, educational shows, water areas for kids, free rides. Fun for everyone! Only downside was that a couple of areas were closed due to renovations and the map was a little confusing.

“Really nice zoo”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I like that the animals (for the most part) have large areas for movement. Some of the birds & the pygmy hippos do not, which is sad. The manatee hospital is first rate and does a lot of good work towards helping injured manatees. If all of the areas for the animals were larger I would give this 5 stars.

“Great Zoo!”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

Perfect size zoo for a day of family fun! Nice variety of animals in a pretty setting. Several shows daily to enjoy. The Birds of Prey show was very entertaining for both children and adults...one of the best I have seen! I liked that the childrens' rides were included in admission and lines were nonexistent. We enjoyed lunch at Reilly's Reserve overlooking the giraffe and zebra enclosure. Much better fare offered here than at the food court...especially tasty for "zoo food":) Highly recommend this attraction!

“A good day out”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

I would say this park is overpriced, though discounts are available through websites in the slower months.

A good selection of animals, although in places it seems geared up for a young audience (that is, outside of the kiddie area).

Would go back again for a lower price. Also, they serve beer there!
