“New Years Eve 2012”
Reviewed January 1, 2013

Before going, we read many, many reviews on Yacht Starship out of Channelside in Tampa. So we were aware of the pros and cons of this dinner cruise. First the pros: $299 for a couple gets you ALL you can possibly drink in 2 1/2 hours. Bartenders were very good. Occasionally, a server would come to our table. Food was buffet style (we liked that). Beautiful scenery of downtown Tampa still decked out for the holidays, and a terrific view of the fireworks from 1/4 mile offshore. The cons: the tables and chairs in the waiting area were loaded onto the boat and therefore was over-booked (it was a sellout). We waited for the line to pass by and joined the line at the end knowing a seat was guaranteed for everyone. The only seats available were at the stern outside. We are thankful the cold front that had passed thru a few days earlier had mellowed so we knew it could have been much worse. Party favors for everyone? Not for those of us outside. Hors d' oeuvres for everyone? Not for those of us outside (wait, a server did come out to our table once with a tray). Food was ok, not outstanding as they tout. The boat left channelside and it was announced we would head to Hillsbourough Bay. This was blatantly untrue. We proceeded up the channel east of Harbor Island, turned right and went down Seddon Channel, stopped at TGH, turned around and returned the same way. We got nowhere near the Davis Island airport, let alone Hillsborough Bay. I have no idea how AAA gives this a "3-diamond" rating as stated on their site. Unable to recommend to anyone. We won't return.

“MY GREAT BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION”
Reviewed December 20, 2012

My boyfriend surprised me with a Holiday DInner Cruise on the Star Ship. From the time we picked up the tickets until we docked, we enjoyed everything. My name and my birthday was printed on the ticket. My name was on the ship's legend as you enter. The cruise director greeted me by name and wished me a "Happy Birthday". When we boarded, tables were set so lovely and the atmosphere fabulous other than the large crowd and the noise. At our table was a reserved table tent with my name on it and again with a special message inside wishing me a "Happy BIrthday" and thanking us for choosing the Star Ship to celebrate. The service was impecable. We asked the maitre'd if we could move to the 2nd level where it was much quieter. The ship was sold out but a customer didn't show and they graciously moved us to the new location. The second floor is where the bar and DJ reside so it is a bit more informal but you can see a lot more. The buffet meal was ok for what it was. Cookies were the only dessert which was a bit disappointing. No cake for me. Drinks were extra but not priced any more than a good restaurant. The waiters all gathered on the third level and sang the customers Christmas carols. The DJ started the dance music about the last 45 minutes. So much fun. Even had a visit with Santa who gave all the customers a Christmas medallion of the Star Ship on red beads. What a treat! Go and enjoy. I bet New Year's Eve would be a blast!

“BEAUTIFUL DINNER CRUISE”
Reviewed December 14, 2012

My partner and I who have recently moved to the area decided to try the Yacht StarShip for dinner rather than exchanging individual Christmas gifts. I found the tickets on AAA for $39.95. We sailed Thurs Dec 13th, 7 p.m. from Tampa pier.

We are both gay and extremely well traveled so this is not our first dinner cruise. I had read some of the reviews and know that statistically people write lousy reviews before taking the time to write a good one. Also, reviews can be very narrow and focus on one flaw. So here I go........

Arrived about 6:35 p.m. Parking was self-pay, no problem and couldn't have been closer or safer. The check in window was manned by a very nice young man who took our vouchers in exchange for our tickets. We were welcomed several times before arriving in a tented area with Christmas trees where we were offered to have our picture taken with our camera, yes our camera. No picture selling.

We were again greeted and shown to our table. It was actually a table for 8 set for 2 with full window view. The ship holds 600 but only 40 were booked for the evening so it was like a private cruise. Our waiter, Brandon, was extremely attentive and professional. It was buffet night. Nice salad, 2 dressings, hot rolls, bow tie pasta, chicken roulade, green beans, salmon and roast beef sliced in front of you. You could take one course at a time and go back as many times as you like. We had a glass of zinfandel and a mai ti, $8.00 each.

The food was good, hot and tasty, more than adequate and the views! Christmas lights. We were checked on again several times during and after dinner to make sure everything was ok. Desert was chocolate moose cake, delicious and bread pudding with vanilla sauce served warm and nice too.

Outside the yacht was decorated in white lights. Beautiful silk poinsettias and green garland inside and nice Christmas carols playing in the bacground. Crisp table linens. Water refilled frequently.

Overall it was a very enjoyable evening. Our check with tip came to $37.03, 2 drinks 18% tip on drinks and $8.00 pp tip to waiter. We rounded up to $50.00 so the waiter acutally got $33.00 tip. We tip on total retail price not any coupon discount. The waiter earned it and it was near Christmas.

The yacht was very nice and comfortable. Could sense very little movement. Unfortunately, the Florida weather was a little uncooperative, windy, cloudy and in the 50's so there was little dancing on the top deck with the DJ. It looks like a nice area that would be a lot of fun on a nice warm day/night. We were thanked by several officers are we disembarked. Home by 10:00 p.m. So $135.00, parking, 2 drinks, 2 dinners and a great harbor ride, $62.50 each. Not bad.

We have family visiting in February. Would take a lunch cruise to see the harbor in the day time.
Hey locals, get out and support your local businesses. We keep them going year round. And for so many of the grumps out there, have a few drinks before you go out to dinner and it will surely be more pleasant for everyone around you!

“Thanksgiving day deal a "turkey" indeed.”
Reviewed November 26, 2012

Not sure where to start when a place touts a 3 star and comes across as about as close to golden corral as the tv commercials show me. Food was nasty at best, potatoes were rock hard and had been squeezed into a chaffing dish from-last night and just oven warmed. Thought there was supposed to be Prime Rib, not at mine, lame over done turkey, cooked into strings, so when you have people that should known how to carve well .... Ham is all, no Prime until I went back to view, overdone also. It was like getting a special favor for the chef at the carving station to give you anything or cut it proper , terrible cold fold, nasty rolls, gross, drunk people standing in line to fondle the food first. Hate buffets this one nothing more. Outdated and showing signs of wear of the boats guys...really nasty decor inside for such a marvel of luxury. Not even close to being worth the money spent or the for the cruise of the channel big whooop.

“Our 16th Anniversary”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We had the best of everything for our 16th anniversary. The food was very good, the service was excellent, the dancing on the top deck was fun. It's a little pricy but that's the only complaint we had.
