“If you are interested in Florida fish...”

Great medium sized aquarium, specializing in Florida Fish (with a few birds, snakes and alligators thrown in). Most exhibits are housed in the large covered area that feels as though you're outside (complete with sound effects)...but it's AIR CONDITIONED! Terrific place to take kids; great (and large) touch tank. Most interesting feature (outside): A raised bar (with adult beverages) overlooking the (wet) kiddie play area.

“Wah-Wah. :(”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

This aquarium is barely average. it should be a major tourist draw for Tampa, but it falls flat. The facility is aging and in need of refreshment. The admission cost is a bit high for what you get. The exhibits aren't that interesting. Of course, you see lots of fish. Let me re-phrase. you're supposed to see lots of fish, but the water is kind of dirty - there's algae growing in some of the tanks or the acrylic is difficult to see through. The shows are below average - some are done at the exhibits where you have to wait around and end up standing through the entire presentation. The other thing that is missing: mammals! There are plenty of mammals that live in FL that are not represented. No manatees, dolphins, etc. Very disappointing.

“Day trip”
Reviewed September 30, 2012

My husband and I went to the aquarium in Tampa on a Saturday. Big mistake, way crowded with parents and kids in strollers. A very small aquarium and not very organized. Tried to find the dolphin cruise but had a hard time finding it, no signage as to where we needed to go. Asked for directions and was told to go straight and look for the red doors.very hard to find. Food was very expensive also. A pre made sandwich which you would find at a gas station was around $7.00. So before you go eat out or wait until you leave. I was expecting more larger aquariums filled with all kinds of fish and better signage explaining the types that were found in the tank. Enjoyed the dolphin cruise. If your in the area visit the aquarium but I too wouldn't plan a trip around it.

“One of the top aquariums that we have visited”
Reviewed September 28, 2012 via mobile

We've been to this aquarium a number if times. The entire aquarium can be done in between an hour to two hours. The aquarium has some penguins, but they are not an actual exhibit. A staff member brings them out I a glass box into the lobby for a few minutes. Its a weird way to display penguins, but it is nice to be that close to them. As with most aquariums, they have the obligatory ray touch tank. Kids also have the option of touch starfish, urchins, etc. While the Ripley's aquarium in Gatlinburg, Tn is superior, it is definitely worth a visit if in the area.
