Owner description: Nestled within 52 acres of flora and fauna, the Tallahassee Museum is an oasis close to the heart of downtown. The Tallahassee Museum features a working 1880s pioneer farmstead, native Florida wildlife habitat (including panthers and red wolves), cypress swamp, Jim Gary's 20th Century Dinosaurs, and the all new Tallahassee Tree to Tree Adventures (an outdoor zip line and adventure course for kids and adults). Come enjoy the great outdoors with us at the Tallahassee Museum- where nature, history, science, and fun come together!

The museum itself is on a lovely piece of land, with beautiful scenery and animal exhibits that feature Florida wildlife. The real draw here, though, is the high ropes course, which is a deal at $40 per person. There are a few choices for the ropes course, and I HIGHLY recommend doing the whole thing. The first section, at $25, is only a quarter as long and barely even touches what the rest of the course offers. For $15 more, you get to do the first part, plus a whole bunch of other obstacles and zip lines. It's rigorous, and it's a little scary (in a good way) if you're afraid of heights (especially the end parts) but so worth it. You zip line over animals and through cypress forests. I live in Tallahassee, and it's my favorite activity in town by a landslide. If I wasn't a poor student, I'd be there every weekend. Great workout!

Spent 30 years in Tallahassee and took my kids there many times in the 80's but this was my first time back there. A lot of memories from the things that have not changed and there were a lot of additions. I recommend going on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds. As a photographer the wildlife let you get really close to them because they see people every day.

I've been coming here since it was the Tallahassee Junior Museum, and have always loved it. I love the Florida history part of it (old Florida buildings such as a school, 1850s house, commissary store, log cabin, blacksmith shop, African American church, barn with a few farm animals, etc.) as well as the Florida natural history part (animals at one time native to Florida such as the wolf, fox, black bear, otter, bobcat) in a natural setting. The whole place can just send me back in time--and part of the charm is the natural scenery of the location on a lake, with cypress and pine trees. The tranquility of the place is lovely, or used to be. I had heard that zip lines and a tree course had been added, but figured it was on another part of the property. Well, now you get to visit the old Florida buildings and nature exhibits and even some of the animal habitats while screaming people walk the ropes and boards and zoom by just a few feet over your head. Not only has the whole atmosphere changed, but the place is now renting out space for parties during the regular open hours. One of my favorite places at the museum was the nature viewing room, a gorgeous building with glass walls in which you can chill out and watch birds at the feeders and waterers just outside the building. Well, when I went there recently I couldn't even get in the nature viewing building because someone had rented it for a birthday party. And how many birds would have been there anyway with all the humans cavorting about in the trees?

I suppose the place wasn't making much money with just Florida history exhibits and a few animals. So they needed to hip it up and jazz it up to bring in the money. And it has probably worked: they charge huge fees for the tree adventure, and their rental fees are hefty. I see they have changed the name again, this time to Tallahassee Museum. The last name (they change their name as often as Diddy) was Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science, and with the changes they would have had to change it to Tallahassee Museum of History and Natural Science and Adventure Sports and Party Rentals. That would have been too long so they just settled on Tallahassee Museum. That should cover whatever they decide to do next, even if they add outdoor slot machines and barrell racing to bring in a little more cash.

Or a small getaway on the other side of town...always a delight but especially when there is an event to attend...jazz music, pioneer days, etc.

The Tallahassee Museum has the new Tree to Tree Adventures, with ziplines and ropes course. Kind of pricey at $45.00 per person but half the cost of Forever Florida. We spent a couple of hours on the course and had the most fun. Go on a weekday, not the weekend and you'll go soaring through the trees without a crowd at your back. Well worth it.
