The old capital building is restored to its original state in 1902 in order to keep the structure at a safe distance from the new 22 story capital building. There is a 15 minute talk about the building, its history and the restoration process. The exhibits are laid out well with plenty of information. The restoration is well done. There are plenty of videos. The senate & representative halls as the supreme court are all restored as it was in it's day. The Museum is worth a visit and the admission is free.

We very much liked the way this Museum was arranged, as followed Florida through the ages, from several thousand years back to the present.

We always visit state capitol buildings whenever we are near capital cities, so we made a point of checking out the historic capitol building in Tallahassee. Very fortunate that he citizens of Florida has the foresight to preserve the old building when the new building was constructed in the seventies. Exhibits are excellent, including the temporary maps display, and the restoration is beautifully done, down to the red and white striped awnings. Visit this building first, then check out the new building. There is no admission charge, however the suggested donation is $3.00.
