My wife and I and two friends ate dinner here Saturday night. The food was excellent and the ambiance elegant, including beautiful artwork on the walls. This is probably the classiest place for dinner in town. The menu is structured unusually, with some of the more traditional dishes listed on the back of the menu after the desert listing. Service was good and the staff friendly.

Ala Provence is in a strip mall, which concerned us when we arrived. Inside, the restaurant is very nice. Our appetizers were excellent. Foie GRAS torchon and escargot. The duck was amazing as well as the grouper. We split a souffle. We were very surprised we found a restaurant like this in Tallahassee.

Saturday night, 7 pm and the menu, which had about 8 entrees, did not have the three fish dishes available. The reason: the owner out of town; no one ordered the fish. The fish market is literally across the street so the reason is suspect. The waiter was delightful and put in a very bad position. We almost left but stayed and made substitutes, some of which were suboptimal (salad soaked by dressing, one dish oversalted, another mediocre tasting) and others, crabcakes and greens/ham soup, were delicious. Disappointing and not worth returning to this place.

My wife and I have had the honor and privledge to dine at many great restaurants, unfortunately, this isn't one of them. Portions were too big (we went with the four course prix fixe, the appetizer was plenty for the entire meal), lamb had minimal flavor, and I've never had a creme brulee that was unedible. In addition, the wine ordered for the main course arrived approx 10 minutes after the course had been served. The wine, upon arrival, was oxidized (bottle had been open to long), and thus both glasses were sent back. We won't be returning......................

Probably wouldn't go back, but it was a decent meal for a Groupon. The location has been frequented by French restaurants that have gone out of business. I don't think this management is bad, but it took a long time for the food to come out. Service was respectful, but nothing phenomenal. Food was decent, yet nothing spectacular. Prices were a little high and expectable given the interior decorations. I like nice dining, but I think there are finer places to frequent that will pique the palette much more.
