“Gator & Bird Watching”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

St. Marks Wildlife refuge is a nice Sunday drive from Tallahassee. If your timing is right you can catch gators sunning on the banks. Many different species of bird migrate through the area a local favorite for the bird watchers. The education center provides dioramas of the animals and vegetation you may see and sells souvenirs and local interest books. Many trails. The lighthouse is not open to explore except once a year but still is awesome to see.

“A birder's paradise”
Reviewed August 6, 2012

State park with lighthouse on the water. Butterflies come through here on their flight to Mexico. Also have endangered birds nesting. Good for a drive or an afternoon hike.

“Unspoiled”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

While graduate students in the 80's my wife and I and friends visited here often to hike, explore, bird watch, fish. We haven't visited since then and I was delighted to find that the parks service has improved it greatly while not spoiling anything. There are no real "entertainment" options, but if you love to see nature unspoiled and as pure as it gets (while also allowing access to visitors) this is a place you should visit. About a 40 minute trip from Tallahassee, but also close to Wakulla Springs - make a day of it by visiting both!

“Fun field trip!”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

We had a very fun field trip! 3 of the rangers and volunteers took us on a tour of the refuge. We got to bird watch and get in the water to look for the the different animals that live in the water. All of the kids had a great time!
