We had never tried the California Pizza Kitchen. Normally when we’re in the Sawgrass Mills area we’re coming from a movie and are looking for a fun meal, to end an enjoyable outing.
The location is a few steps from the local Cheesecake Factory. By comparison, we first tried for a table at the “Factory” and as usual, it was a zoo; packed with screaming kids and their family members, crowded and with a 20+ minute wait. Since we’re not big on super noisy dining experiences and were only there because it was nearby, we decided to leave and walk a few steps to give California Pizza Kitchen a try. The wait was reasonable and we reviewed the menu while waiting, in peace.
Our server was a delight and answered our questions with a smile. She also made certain our drinks (Tea and Soda) were always full.
For our appetizer we ordered the Tortilla Spring Rolls, and selected the Thai Chicken & Baja Chicken, which came with 3 of each. Both types were very tasty and the size was just perfect. Next time we’ll try the Mediterranean Veggie, which looked good, too.
For our first visit we wanted to try their Original Pizzas as our entrees. I had the Mushroom & Pepperoni pizza and my husband had The Works (Spicy Sausage, Pepperoni, Mushrooms, Black Olives, etc.). Both were very good. The crust was a nice combination of crispy but soft inside and the tomato-based sauce was fine. We both took just under half our pizzas home.
We decided to really indulge and split Dessert. The Butter Cake with Vanilla Hagen Dazs is spectacular. A square of heavy moist cake served with mounds of fresh whipped and the ice cream. Wow. If you’re looking for a real indulgence, and love the taste of butter and vanilla, this dessert is just the ticket.
And for those of us who try to keep track of our indulgences, you can easily find a complete nutritional / calorie guide at the CPK site. I wish more restaurants shared this information. Hats off to California Pizza Kitchen.
We had a terrific first experience and will be returning soon. Bye, bye Cheesecake Factory and Hello California Pizza Kitchen!
