“Old Florida Ambiance”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2013

Nestled on Floridas nature coast is an old fishing village on the banks of the Steinhatchee River, in the Big Bend of Fl,in the southeast corner of rural Taylor county lies this quaint resort. It is laid back, quiet, very southern, and special. This is what Florida used to be. Don't expect nightlife or glitz. But if you enjoy nature, bird watching, fishing, scalloping, or just relaxing, this place is for you. We have stayed here many times. We have rented pet friendly houses but more recently stayed in a romantic bungalow cottage. The amenities in both were very good.Out cottage had a comfortable king sized bed, galley kitchen, fireplace, spa hot tub, small screened porch overlooking a creek, and open front porch. The resort has a great workout room, large pool, archery area, boat ramp on the river, but no restaurant. Just down the road is a small cafe, 2 seafood restaurants, and a pizza joint, all fair to good. But if you plan to stay more than a few days, you may want to bring your own staples and take advantage of the kitchen provided, as you may get bored w the minimal local restaurants their is a village liquor store but I usually bring my own wine because I am into better wines than available.this is the best place to stay in the area.its not 5 star, but very nice, clean, and comfortable..

The Steinhatchee Landing Resort is one of the most unique resorts we have enjoyed anywhere in Florida.

The founder/owner Mr. Fowler is a true southern gentleman who has created a resort that is geared toward family vacations but also has some very attractive honeymoon cottages.

The cottages and rentals were designed by Mr. Fowler to mimic 1920's era design but with all the modern conveniences we enjoy today in luxury accommodations.

Whether you enjoy lounging by the pool, archery, fishing, biking, kayaking or enjoying a spa treatment and massage, this is a a great place for an "old Florida" vacation.

We recently returned from Steinhatchee and we had a nice time. While our vacation was nice I doubt I will be back. There is just not much to do other than fish and scallop (during scallop season).

The river is beautiful but you have to go so slow that the kids did not have that much fun. The only time we could go fast was when you got in the Gulf and it was too rough on the days that we were there.

The house was nice and Steinhatchee Landing is a beautiful place but it was just not for us.

My wife and I spent a couple of days at the resort as a point of departure for days trips. The very quiet days of November in small FL towns along the coast were extremly enjoyable to visit, as well as the some of the pristine nature preserves, beaches and coves that are so picturesque! The resort accomodations - a small 1 bedroom in its own building - were quite comfortable with facilities for cooking, fireplace, hottub, wireless, TV cable, stereo, and grilling. The resort amenities included swimming, kayacking, bike riding, walking, workout room, swimming pool, etc. The resort was extremly quiet in early November, and was just what we wanted! Very enjoyable! Our room was next to the tennis court but there was no activity during our stay.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms mayhave views in the rear of the buildings that drive up the costs.

My wife and I spent the week at the resort, taking day trips around the area to experience the undisturbed coastal Florida environment....spent a lot of the time in kayaks exploring the Steinhatchee River, and the various coves and outlets north of the Steinhatchee....The resort itself was beautiful and comfortable and extremely well appointed....we stayed in Cottage #25 and couldn't have asked for anything better (1BR/1B)....there was a niced screened porch on the back and a small grill for cooking...the bathroom had a giant spa tub with a fireplace that was viewed from both the bedroom/living area and the bath...in our down time, enjoyed reading and making a puzzle that was in the unit...full kitchen for cooking meals and the catch of the day!

Room Tip: for couples the one bedroom units are more than generous as far as amenities and comfort

My husband & I wanted to little romantic getaway for the weekend without the crowds, fuss or bother. We have found that the Big Bend area is far enough to get away, but close enough that we don't lose the relaxing part of the weekend sitting in traffic or relentless distances on the interstates. We rented a cottage from a private owner, but had use of the resort amenities. The property is charming-looks like a little village. :) Very quaint. Despite being a weekend in June, we saw very few people around & the resort was rather quiet...which was perfect for us. We had the pool mostly to ourselves, took a nice walk around the lovely grounds, took a "swim" in the resort spa hot tub...it was perfect. We bought groceries & did our own cooking at the cottage. Cottage was romantic, upscale, relaxing & nicely furnished. Quality towels, nice linens & bedding. There was a two-person soaking tub/jacuzzi in the cottage, which we made use of every day. Rain shower came down from the ceiling. Grill located outside of the cottage, a lovely screen porch on the back...comfortable furniture with great chairs for sitting & listening. If you are looking for peace & quiet, this is the place for you. If you are looking for sizzling nightlife, a party scene or alot to keep you occupied...this is not the place. We took a short drive out to one of the natural areas & watched the Fiddler crabs do their dance, enjoyed the breeze, quiet & serene natural setting. Enjoyed a picnic at one of the points. There are very few restaurants in the area, so plan accordingly. We had planned to grill out steaks, have pasta & prepare breakfast ourselves. A large cup of coffee enjoyed on the screened back porch was perfect & lingering over breakfast is something our busy family life does not usually allow. Metal roof made the incoming rain from Tropical Storm Debby wonderful to sleep to. If a natural area without alot of distractions is what you need to recharge your batteries, then Steinhatchee Landing is perfect. We are looking forward to coming back with our children at another time. I am sure this place is much livlier during Scallop Season (starting July 1). Perfect romantic getaway for peaceful relaxtion.

Room Tip: We rented from a private owner, so I can't comment on the service of the resort staff. We did no...
