“Hoped for Better”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2012

We tried Grouper Gregs when they had first opened next to the gas station by Camp Blanding. they have since moved to Call St. in Starke. The location is much better as is the atmosphere inside with it's historic charm. We were seated right away and our waitress was very nice and attentive. We ordered the "secret recipe" crab cake app...$6.95, and the seafood platter for two $29.99, one draft beer $1, and a glass of wine $4.95. for dessert homemade key Lime pie $3.95. The crabcakes were VERY small (maybe 3") VERY thin (1/4"??) and mushy. They were pan grilled/fried and had barely any crab flavor. They were too salty with a heavy hand on the oldbay. Sorry, not for that price. The platter was large and contained oysters, shrimp, clamstrips and scallops. The fry on most of it was crispy and light. The scallops however were overcooked and brown. The dips were good and we asked for the dip used for the crab cakes which was a mustard, mayo, horseradish combo. It came with two sides,to SHARE, we chose colesalw and fries. The slaw was good, but the portion for two was ridiculous. It was the size you would get for one anywhere else in a small saucer. The fries were a regular basket. The key lime was OK, and too whipped for me. It was more like a keylime and coolwhip blend then a custard or cream based pie. The flavor profiles were ok. I would give them another try on a different menu item, but for what we had it was really nothing special.

“Great place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 12, 2012

Stopped in on our way to Gainseville and love it. Not too fancy and not too drab. The pool table was great and they had live music too which was awesome. They have a huge display of liquor and a large beer selection. We had CAB burger and it was cooked perfect, seasoned nicely and juicy, just the way I like it. They have lots of promotions going on, not sure if they have a website but I think they are on FB so perhaps you can check their promo's or just call and i am sure they will tell you. If you're a local or just passing through stop in.
