Big Bear Lodge is on a similar vein to B&B's in the USA. The accommodation is first class and the hosts are exceptional. They will go out of their way to help you either in things to do or making sure you have what you want for your breakfast. Nothing is too much for them and they will make you feel extremely welcome.

Give this one a try you will not regret it... guaranteed.

Normally we camp in Derbyshire in the October break but we came across the camping pods at Big bear lodge and thought we’d give it ago. Very glad we did because it’s a fantastic site. Mark the owner made us feel very welcome and this site has the best shower I’ve ever seen at a campsite. There’s a pub which is a 10 minute walk from the site called the Tontine inn which served good food. We stayed 3 days and visited the 2 castles Chirk and Powis and did a bit of exploring. We will be definitely back next year to explore a bit more. Oh yes and one more thing the views are stunning.

We have just come back from an overnight stay at Big Bear Lodge as we were going to a Wedding at nearby Rowton Castle. It is a fabulous place, with a real authentic feel, great place to unwind and feel that you are away from it all. Stunning views, a great decked area to sit out and relax - with a wood burner ready for the cooler days ahead.

All the rooms are immaculate and named after canadian resorts like Whistler, Banff etc, Great showers and ensuite wet-rooms, spotlessly clean. Comfy beds.

There is a river nearby with canoes available from Mark and Rachel (the great owners) for people who want them and Mark and Rachel are clearly very knowledgable about the area. Mark has been on tv a number of times as he is a champion paraglider and skilled climber so any outdoors types wanting to chat or explore the stunning hills and countryside near by are in good company.

Fantastic breakfast and we did not feel rushed at all. Checkout time felt like little more than a guideline and we were made to feel very, very welcome. Great company, we will definately be going back soon to Big Bear Lodge with our children to stay in the pods and explore the area more. I have already recommended it to three families and a customer and we have barely been home 24 hours!

Room Tip: All three rooms are of equal quality

What a great find. Imagine an alpine ski lodge in the middle of rural Shropshire, run by 2 lovely people, with chickens and donkeys in the next field, built to very high standards, and with no sign of ubiquitous B&B lace curtains - that's Big Bear Lodge.

Its a great set up - there are 3 fabulous rooms in the lodge with a central living space, camping pods in the grounds, along with plenty of room for tents, and pitches for caravans in the field across the road.

The owners Mark and Rachel are so accomodating (Rachel even picked up a bottle of wine for my wife and I as she was popping to the shops!). Nothing is too much trouble.

This place deserves to be booked up all year round, and at £75 a night its the bargain of the century!

We travel a lot to North Shropshire and usually stay with friends; and when that is not possible, we find a hotel or Bed & Breakfast. Big Bear is a B&B that we happened upon by chance and a brilliant find. The lodge has the feel of a skiing lodge - but adapted for the English countryside. Guests have the ground floor of the lodge to themselves, with a cosy lounge and dining room and a great terrasse from which to admire the views. We were told that a log burner will be installed shortly which will make it even more perfect. The room was small but very clean and modern with a good bed. The wet room was very swish. The view over fields and hills was lovely and it was really quiet during the night.

Breakfast could have kept us going all day had we been able to eat it all, and the owners were helpful, friendly and great to talk to.

You will be pleased to hear that only the donkeys and chickens are "live", whilst bears feature in ornamental form.

We also looked at the camping pods which looked great fun and the camping loo and shower facilities were immaculate. I was especially impressed by the disabled toilet and shower room - which was much superior to anything I have seen in a long time. It demonstrates that the hosts really care about their guests.

There is a pub / restaurant in walking distance which had some good ale (or so my partner tells me) and very reasonable food.

Room Tip: I believe only 2 of the rooms overlook the hills (Banff and Whistler?) and not sure about the other...

We took our camper van for a long weekend to this new site. Although I know the area well I had forgotten how peaceful & quiet the area is. Rachael, Mark & family are very helpful which is always a good sign. The old timber church at Melverley overlooking the River Severn / Vernwy is a must see, so too the friendly pub nearby, all within walking distance. Main site is the lodge with all new facility's outside for campers. 5 Hard standings are in next field 50 yds away. All have electric points & water taps available. All in all a lovely small site, reasonably priced & within easy drive to many rural attractions. Will definitely go again.

We have just got back from Big Bear Lodge and could not be happier with our trip! When we arrived we were greeted by Rachael, the owner, who could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Our room was immaculately clean, the views were beautiful and the breakfast in the morning was excellent. It can be hard to find a B&B which is both affordable and comfortable, however Big Bear ticks all of the boxes and more. Would recommend to absolutely everybody !!
