arrived at Ballydougan just after 9am and was met by friendly staff member to be told that cottage not ready even though promised it would be ready and then got told someone wrote down 9pm arrival (considering place for payment shuts at 5pm prompt!!)
was shown into accommodation I rented and was met with furniture out of house clearing jumble sale, they did not match décor.
when I went to pay for cottage that I rented I found that even though I phoned TWICE to confirm and my brother in law paid a visit as stays local they still messed up booking
what I liked was scones were waiting on the table for our arrival.
cottages for rent are located around the back of property away from main road which is a bonus as traffic are flying down this road at a rate of knots.
prices in the shop are very pricey however and do need to be reduced.
what is bothering me that was a 4 star but been stripped down to a 3 star.
will consider returning but prices seriously needs looking at to encourage more users, and staff members listen to potential customers.

all in all good place to stay and will return as this was my 2nd visit.

Room Tip: ask for Bramley Apple cottage, it has 2 twin beds in 1 room and twin and cot in other

We stayed in the Wheat Loft and found it very comfortable, Milk and fresh scones to accompany the tea and coffee provided made a nice welcome on arrival, Staff were very welcoming and made sure that we had everything that we needed. The cottage was lovely and warm, a very comfy bed and when we had breakfast, it was freshly cooked and most enjoyable. The ideal place when you are visiting family or friends as it gives you that little bit of space to kick back. Thankyou.

We stayed here for a very special occasion in July 2013 and were made to feel very welcome . Staff could not have been more attentive. Accommodation was quaint very clean and comfortable. The breakfast next morning was something else. Would thoroughly recommend.

We stayed here during August '13....we booked a 3 bedroom self catering cottage. The family were looking forward to a cosy, intimate 3 night stay and the anticipation was high.... the reality was somewhat different. Where to start?
1. The decor was grim. The furniture and furnishings were 'house clearance'....not 'shabby chic' just shabby!!
2. The bathroom was grubby with the cheapest porcelain and tiles and altogether a depressing environment and not a place to linger!
3. The exterior and garden areas of the complex were untended and unkempt. Such a shame, as with a bit of TLC it could be transformed.

What really encapsulated the overall experience far better than my words was the fact that there used to be 4 STARS on the outside wall however there are now only THREE. The screws that secured the fourth star remain in place and the outline is still visible. Enough said.

Room Tip: Try somewhere else

Over the weekend I was in Northern Ireland visiting relatives. So instead of booking into a hotel miles away we rented a cottage at the pottery. It is a nice secluded place. It has its own coffee shop/ restaurant. the cottages are fully equipped and kept in a very clean condition. All bedding and towels are provided. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. If you are visiting Northern Ireland and don't like the hustle and bustle of a large town/city. Then I would recommend the
Ballydougan Pottery.

My wife and I have stayed at Ballydougan several times, previously in the Potters Cottage, but this time, it was occupied, so we stayed in The Wheat Loft above. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, having a full Irish breakfast most mornings before leaving for the day to visit family nearby in Craigavon. The owners, Sean and Marie O'Dowd, and all of the staff, are always welcoming and it is a pleasure to stay there. We will be back again before Christmas.

Room Tip: Have a look at the website and see what suits you best, we've only stayed in the Potters Cottage...

We booked the Ballydougan for our parents' Golden Wedding anniversary in June this year. I had been a number of times before for breakfast and lunch and had always been impressed with the quality of the food and service and the delightful venue. Throughout the planning process Bridget and the staff could not have been more accommodating. We had the entire venue to ourselves for the event and a number of us stayed in the self-catering cottages over the weekend so we could get together before the evening. We stayed in the Wheatloft. The cottages are a delight. They are quaint and full of character but beautifully appointed and with welcoming touches such as a very welcome tray of freshly-baked scones, biscuits and fresh milk to greet us on arrival. The kitchen area is fully equipped and the bathroom well-stocked with a hairdryer. The whole cottage was spotlessly clean and looked out over its own private deck.
On the evening of our event everything went without a hitch thanks to the thorough planning and professional approach of the staff. Guests were greeted by staff with a glass of champagne, strawberries and shortbread while they mingled in the sunny courtyard. The dining room was beautifully set out for our buffet style sit-down meal which was orchestrated perfectly by the staff. The food was excellent as were the vegetarian and vegan meals. We had ordered a cake which the venue had provided too and this was then served with tea and coffee. After the meal guests moved into the courtyard or the other area of the venue and caught up with each other or took part in the ceili. Everyone had a wonderful time and throughout the evening the staff were attentive yet unobtrusive. I cannot speak highly enough of the service they provided and the end result was the happiest and most memorable family evening we could have wished for for my parents. So, thank you Bridget and your hardworking team for making this event so special for our family. I would recommend the Ballydougan unreservedly to anyone looking for a special, intimate venue for an event or just for a high-quality breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea in a unique setting or indeed for a unique accommodation in the cottages. We will certainly be back.
