“Kayak Trip - Lots of Fun”

Just took a trip down the Juniper Springs run and it was a lot of fun. This is really a trip for someone with experience. The run took just over 5 hours for a groups of six kayakers to make the trip down the 7 miles. The river is very narrow and it has a swift current. We were fortunate the water level was high and we did not have to lug the kayaks over any of the dead wood. As it was we did get hung up several times due to submerged trees and the current did wreck havoc! On the fun side we did see, a deer, snake, and several birds (no gators). Oh yes, the one small rapid was fun, fun, fun. A trip to enjoy but you should get on the water early.

Unforgettable but in a scary way. The trip took us 6.5 hours instead of 4. We had 3 canoes and a kayak. Every canoe flipped once or twice at some point. They are heavy and it was a process to get back going. It is not a stroll down the spring. You need to manuver the canoe around many obstacles and sometimes the only passage is the width of the canoe itself. We constantly ran into low hanging bushes, I was terrified that my son would loose an eye or get a bad cut in his face. We ended up with schatches all over. Everytime we ran into bushes, spiders would fall on the canoe, which my son was very scared of, causing major problems. Once you start there is no way to get out. Many people took breaks on areas where the water is low and clear. That is fine if you are not afraid of alligators, you WILL see them closer than you may like. The spring is very narrow (sometimes a few feet) and we saw quite a few. I did not feel comfortable swimming there. My canoe flipped over on a deep, muddy area. Thank God we did not loose anything of major importance. I had everything on ziploc bags and I had closed my bag a few minutes before we flipped. This is a great place for those that are fit, have good arms and are very adventurous at heart. I wished the people at the park would warn families with children that this is a very difficult trip. Maybe it is on their website, not sure. Would not do it again..
