“Absolutely fantastic!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2006

Ignore the other negative reviews people have given, Turtle Beach Resort is well worth the trip!
The amenities were wonderful, the room was clean and the view was fantastic. The water toys (canoes, paddleboats, fishing poles, pool toys) were all available and in great condition. Everything was perfect and made you feel right at home. The staff was friendly and welcoming and made sure all of our expectations were met. The furnishings inside our cottage were wonderful. The couch, chairs and beds were so comfortable we never wanted to get out, and the atmosphere was fantastic. The pictures on the walls, fake flowers, seashells and books made the cottage warm and cozy. The privacy you receive here can't be beat either. There's nobody knocking on your door or getting in your way. You’re free to walk out on the dock, go canoeing, go for a swim, fire up the grill, take a relaxing dip in your private hot tub, or just lounge around your cottage without anyone getting in your way. It’s truly the perfect place to be.
The only thing to be aware of is the fact that it depends upon who your neighbors are as to how peaceful it can be. The people in the cottage next to us were a group of foreigners who were very loud all day, which made for our “peaceful” days to be tainted. However, if you have well-mannered, quiet neighbors you'll be fine. Also, be aware that there is a $62 charge for each pet you bring, and unlike what is stated on their website, there isn’t a private beach for you to let your pet run free. You must canoe or paddle out to the "beach," but even then, this beach was hidden under 2 inches of water. You can go a few minutes down the road to beautiful Turtle Beach, but pets are prohibited there, so it doesn't make it worth while. I suggest if you have a pet, you think about having someone at home watch him/her because there won't be much for your pet to do here. We brought our pug along and the poor thing had to stay in the cottage while we went out because there was truly nowhere for her to go and play. We had to have her leashed at all times, and being that the cottages are close together and there were always people outside, it made it difficult for her to enjoy herself. We wound up having to take her across the street to use the bathroom each day, as well.
Outside of those aspects, the entire trip was fantastic. The view each morning is phenominal and you truly have the privacy to do whatever you'd like without having people stomping around or interfering with your private time. Quite frankly, I’m surprised at all of the negative reviews people have given, but remember – it depends upon the person as to how true a review is. Perhaps for someone expecting 5-star service and amenities, this isn’t the place to be; but for a down-to-earth couple or family wanting a nice vacation outside of the fast-paced lifestyle, this is the place to be, without a doubt.
I highly recommend Turtle Beach Resort to anyone. It may be expensive, but you do get what you pay for. Privacy, relaxation, beautiful views, an amazing beach just minutes down the road, and a place to escape the craziness of the world. My husband and I cannot wait to return. Turtle Beach Resort will forever be our home away from home.

My partner and I were so excited to find the Turtle Beach Resort online...it appeared to be beautiful, and allowed dogs. We had our small dog with us on this trip so needed a place that would accomodate pets. For the price (around $350), I would have expected a great deal more. There were numerous issues: Althought the cottage we stayed in had a beautiful water view, the inside of it was filthy. The tile was dirty and many items in the bathroom (mirrors, towel holders, etc.) were rusty. The couch was entirely uncomfortable...could not even sit there to enjoy a little tv at night. Obviously, this was a very cheap couch that may have been purchased at a walmart or garage sale. The whirlpool, which we expected to be a highlight, had sand in it. The outside of the cottage was in disrepair...needing paint and the gutters were overflowing. The bath towels were damp...it seems they were never dried when put away in our room. Additionally, the pool was very small (not a problem in itself)...different than the way it looked on the website. The kayaks were very old...not something we wanted to take out to the bay. For over $300 a night, you'd think the free equipment would be in better shape. Additionally, there seemed to be a sewage problem as indicated by the disgusting smell around the pool area which was present intermittently. We could not go to the deeper end of the pool due to the smell. Overall, we feel entirely misled and ripped off. Although the cottages have nice views, the "resort" is filthy...go there only if you need a place that takes pets. And, there are probably cleaner alternatives taht can accomodate you, at that.

We were so excited to show up at the resort. The website showed a beautiful place!
When we got there we soon changed our mind. We were not shown where our room was, and had to find the Jasmine cottage ourselves. We were not welcomed instead the only thing that was said to us was what our balance was. Very rude.
When I walked into the cottage to put the food away I saw the kitchen. It was very dirty (finger prints all over the glasses, a brown/black sponge to use to wash the dishes, bugs, a drying rack that was filthy, etc). Bring your own cleaning supplies. The refrigerator was not cold and ended up putting the food in our coolers so it would not spoil. The beach was CROWDED on the off season and far away. The puppy islands did not really exist which was one thing we were excited to take the dogs to. The jacuzzi did not work the first night, and THE RULES... You will be charged if you leave a mark on the sheets or the bathrobes (isn't that what clorox is for??)along with MANY other ridiculous rules many having to do with the ammenities (don't let your child tie up the fishing lines or you will be charged!). We felt like children! The maintence man sat on our porch talking on the phone many times, and the pool which looks large in the picture is VERY SMALL. For the money we were VERY disappointed.
On a positive note....they gave us many towels, and Ophielia's, the restaurant which is nor affiliated with the resort, was excellent!
Good luck if you choose to go. Hopefully you will have a better experience than we did!

My spouse and I stayed at the Turtle Beach Resort for some much needed R&R. We stayed in the new Inn at the Turtle Beach Resort. While we found the price of the room quite steep, we still had a wonderful time. Here are the pros and cons:

PROS:
Check-in takes five minutes and you never have to see anyone from the office again unless you need something (our outside lights weren't working one night and we called the owners and they were fixed the very next day so that we could use them that night).

While there are ten rooms at the Inn (almost all were filled while we were there) we rarely ever saw a soul and NEVER heard anyone. It was as though we had the entire resort to ourselves. We laid in the hammocks, went in the pool, watched the sunset from the upstairs deck and felt as though we had our own private resort.

The location is a bit far from town, but if seclusion is what you want (which is what we wanted) it is PERFECT! The resort is within walking distance of good food and a pub, the beach, and a park.

It is nice to have grills, beach chairs, bikes, etc... at your disposal so that you don't have to go out unless you want to.

The hot tubs are AWESOME and VERY private. We enjoyed our private patio for breakfasts alone and of course the hot tub.

CONS:
The Inn is really a converted motel and not all that luxurious for $300 a night. The rooms have all been redone, but they are still quite motel like and not all of the work was done well.

The kitchen is advertised as a full kitchen, but is not really such. It had a 2 mini burner stove top, no oven, a mini fridge/freezer, small microwave, and toaster. You could easily do breakfast (toast or cereal) and an easy lunch, but nothing more. If you wanted to cook anything up for dinner or anything more elaborate you would either need to use the grill in the pool area or go out. Also, because the fridge was SO small you can't really store much (either food or alcohol, not both).

OVERALL:
In terms of enjoyment and relaxation, we found it. However, I would not recommend this resort if you want luxury of any sort.

I recently returned from a trip to the Turtle Beach Resort and must say that I am shocked with the reviews I have read that didn't like the place. I believe that if you are looking for a pampered, five star, turn down the sheets kind of place, look elsewhere. If you want a great location, a friendly staff, and a relaxing, recharge your batteries kind of place, then sign up now. The place is pricey, but they have mid-week deals that are cheaper and the view and the locale are what makes it charming. Anyone who has been to Key West and loves it will love the feel of this place. Ask Dave about the eatin' places and check out Gail's art. We will definitely be back.

I read all the glowing reviews and thought I was heading to Paradise. But this place did not live up to the hype. From the empty beer bottles that were on the deck from before we arrived, and were still there when we checked out six days later, to the lights that were burned out in the bedroom, living room, and around the hot tub, which, when brought to the attention of the owner, he told us to leave the lights on inside the second bedroom so we could see, I suggest that anyone considering this place should research a little more. Oh, and though the pool looked clean, my eyes burned for 36 hours after a short swim, so be sure to bring goggles for you and especially your children. There's more, but you get the idea.

Skip the Turtle Beach Resort. Very overpriced for outdated cottages. The area is very small and enclosed and not so-private. The beach is down the street at least a ten minute walk. Not at all what you expect based on brochures and website. Extremely disappointing.
