Banyan Tree Resort
Reviewed July 25, 2011

The Banyan Tree resort is pretty close to the village so that part was good. That is really the only reason I went with this one. But as it turned out, being able to walk to the village was not as big of a deal as I thought and I found myself driving over there anyway. The place we stayed at is really just a big house converted into several upstairs and downstairs apartments. I guess they have other houses as well. We stayed in the Everglades unit which was on the ground floor. This place accomodated our party of six just well enough and that was with letting our youngest child sleep with us in the King bed. However, had I seen the place in person first, I probably would not have stayed there. The property's grounds are not very well kept. The pictures looked great and when we got there we were disappointed. The building we stayed in is old and worn looking. Our patio area was dirty and had missing trim off the house. Generally just ragged looking all around. The small pool was nice and clean though. The inside of the unit was just okay and the furniture is worn. At least it was clean. We had to put one of our party on the sleeper sofa in the living room. The sleeper sofa is completely worn out. Good thing our teenager didn't mind too much. The matresses on the beds were comfortable enough but the bedding had stains and is well worn. When we pulled the pillow cases off the pillows at the end of our stay, we saw that the pillows / pillow covers were nasty with yellow stains all over. We pointed this out to the manager and she said that would be corrected. As someone else said in their review, we also found the bicycles to be rusted and crappy. We didn't even bother with those. All in all, it was just okay. I guess you just get what you pay for. Next time I would spend a little more and stay in a newer condo in one of the big buildings.

Room Tip: Ground floor units in a house are noisy with upstairs guests walking back and forth. Condos in the b...

Great location! We stayed on the dolphin unit downstairs. Small screened in porch overlooks a canal. Wonderful kitchen wrapped in windows with full size fridge and every appliance you could need. The only downside is that the bikes were extremely old and rusty. The one kayak we never used and the pool was too chilly for us but it was november.

We stayed three nights at the Dolphin. We really enjoyed it. The location was great. Close to town and the beach, less that 5 mins walk to both. The cottage was cozy, had all you needed for a nice stay. We brought extra paper towels, and tp after reading another review. Even tho the shower was in the closet, it was a great strong shower! The pool was really nice. Our only complaint was you couldnt get any bikes. We could never get an answer when we asked several times. We would definatley stay here again.

We stayed for one week in Hummingbird D. We were the only people in the unit which is 4 apartments so we had the pool to ourselves. It was really clean, fully equiped and really spacious. The bed was very comfy and the shower was a huge walk in one. The only thing it lacked was a working clock radio but i don't think we missed it. We didn't care what the time was! Our apartment didn't have it's own wifi but if you went downstairs and into the shared lanai you can pick up the wifi from the property opposite which is fine. Cathi was really nice as were the other ladies who worked there. They had beach chairs that you could borrow but as we prefer loungers we bought some at Walmart and then left them behind at the end of our trip. There was a guest laudry which looked like it was $1 per wash or dry but we didn't use it. The pool guy came every other day to clean the pool and tidy the grounds.
It was about a 2 min walk to the start of the village so the location was perfect, It was far enought away that you couldn't hear the music when you got back at night. Each morning we'd walk into the village to the 7 eleven and get coffee and doughnuts as it was really cheap, they had about 8 different varieties of coffee and a good selection of doughnuts. We ate at the SKOB bar and the Salty Dog which were average. The Broken Egg for breakfast was so nice, the omletes are great. Avoid the rubbish daquiris at the daquiri deck, that place lacks atmosphere and the drinks were very weak and made with non branded alcohol. We really like Gilligans for pre dinner drinks, they have happy hour till 7pm which means the pitchers of bud were only $5! They also have live music every night which was really nice. We spent our last night in the Beach Club which was great fun, they had a live reggae band and a DJ and the draught pints of Bud and Bud Light were $1.75 all night. It was a Sunday night and it was packed in there making for a really lively atmoshere.
We walked 2 mins to the local beach on our first day and it was lovely, beautiful white sand.
Most days we went in the car to Siesta Key Public Beach which was about 5 mins drive away, we just found there was more going on there and there are restrooms and a snack bar there too.
It took about 7 mins to drive to the bridge that took you across to the mainland where there was lots of chain restaurants, we recommend the Outback Steakhouse.
The Westfields mall is about a 10-15 min drive and is really nice inside. Also well worth a drive of about 35mins is the Outlets at Ellenton you culd easily spend a day there. St Armands circle is good for a wander, if you can afford it have lunch in one of the many restaurants or if you can't then sit and have a coffee and people watch.
We also had a day at Anna Maria Island which was beautiful, the sand is the same as on Siesta Key but the beach is narrower. We had lunch at the Sandbar Restaurant right on the sand which is reasonably inexpensive but has amazing food. It was busy from the moment it opened and was getting busier still when we left when the sun was on its way down. Even though it was busy at 13.00 we only waited about 15mins for a table outside on the deck. We sat eating whikst watching the dolphins playing in the shallows of the sea.
We had such a good vacation we really can't wait to go back to the Banyan Tree Resort next year! Thanks Cathi

The upstairs of the yellow house was large and spacious for just the two of us. Very comfy bed. We had pool to ourselves the first few days, as it was quiet. There really is only one small pool for use by this resort. We rode the bikes, good condition. I love Siesta Key and it is easy to get around the village, once you orientate yourself, lol, we walked by our resort a couple times..

There were a few things that needed attention in our unit and I am trusting they were taken care of now that I told them. I would probably stay here again. It is a couple block walk to the beach. I want to stay right on beach next time. But good price here in June.

My family stayed in the "Aruba" house from March 15-22 2008.
The house was very clean when we arrived, the lights were left on for us. It's sparsely decorated but other than that, no real complaints. The heated private screened in pool was clean and frequently used by us. There is central air condition, a grill, lounge chairs, chairs to bring to the beach which was a 5 min walk. There is sliding doors in the living room, kitchen and bedroom that all overlook the pool. The island itself is just lovely, as well as the beach. We were so impressed, we are looking to relocate to that area. You can easily walk to the shopping areas from the house, a little supermarket is a 3 min walk, a pizza shop literally right around the corner as well as ice cream shop. People were so friendly. You won't be disappointed!!

This is what happened. We had booked a weeks stay at Magnolia House thru the actual owners. They sold the lovely home to Banyan Tree. Banyan Tree does not know how to properly maintain their rentals. Cathi (the mgr)is hard to reach by phone or IN person! She is rarely there between the hours of 8-5, when the office is supposed to be OPEN. She doesnt take care of her guests. The free bicycles are a danger to ride(rusty & springs poking out of the seats)Before packing for our trip, I inquired to Cathi, whether the beach toys & chairs & beach towels would still be there in the utility closet. She replied with "whatever was in the closet @ the time of sale should still be in there". (That didnt help me a bit!)
I loved the Magnolia House when it was privately owned, but now since it is a Banyan Property...I will not stay there anymore. I shouldnt have to spend my whole vacation waiting for Cathi to get back to work!!!
