“Tasty Skillets!”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

As a local, the breakfasts at the BE are hard to beat anywhere on the Key. The cheesy potatoes in any of threir "skillets"(actually served of a round au gratin-type dish) are perfect with the eggs and other ingredients. Great sour dough toast and fresh fruit option. Parking is a Royal Pain for both locals and tourists.

Eggs Benedict, French Toast, and the kids pancakes were all Excellent! The service was spot on and they had a really cool machine that produced the best fresh squeezed OJ. Wish I had a Broken Egg in my town!!!

“Good for breakfast”
Reviewed February 1, 2013

This seems to be a regular stop for us whenever we visit my sister and her husband. This trip we found that The Broken Egg had relocated into more spacious quarters that also included the ability to enclose the outdoor area if the weather was not cooperating. A number of local residents must be considered as regulars since they practically have private tables saved for them.

Of course for breakfast you're likely to start with coffee ($2.29/bottomless cup). It's hot and fresh but not really robust. My wife ordered The Lean Machine ($10.99) - an egg white omelet filled with mushrooms, green chilies, onions, vine ripe tomatoes & feta cheese, served with salsa, fresh fruit, and an english muffin. For such a healthy meal it actually tasted quite good.

I chose the Country Biscuit and Gravy ($8.99) - Two eggs (mine over-easy), sausage or bacon, a patty of cheesy potato casserole, and the biscuit smothered with sausage gravy. This was delicious. The biscuit was light, the gravy not overly rich, the eggs perfectly cooked, the sausage flavorful and plentiful, and the cheesy potatoes quite tasty.

Our server, Beata, was charming, friendly and efficient. I understand that Dick Vitale is a part-owner and frequently gives speeches while people are dining. While his intentions are good in attempting to raise funds for a useful cause (helping children with pediatric cancer), I was glad we were seated near the end of his presentation, and about as far away as possible from the speaker system. It is not what I'm looking to experience while having a relaxing breakfast on vacation.

“Excellent Food”
Reviewed January 30, 2013

Very good breakfast. The staff is very courteous and efficient. Obviously by their name, eggs are their specialty, but many other things are on the menu. Eating outside is part of Florida living, but the views from the patio area are of delivery trucks and other vehicles.
