“Not exactly a resort...”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

Stayed here for a few days, and here are some are thoughts.. To be honest I am wondering about who wrote the stellar reviews, marveling about the gardens, nature, beauty, etc..

A. Room is tiny, the tiniest we ever stayed at within any "resort". After putting our suitcases down we were stepping over them for a few days and ended up just placing them on the couch.

B. Lush gardens? The room faces the parking lot. You take a few steps and you are in the street. For people who have been to other resorts, they would not consider these to be "lush gardens"

C. I would not mind if the resort just said " Small motel with small rooms, close to the beach" I still might have stayed there if the price was right. I am starting to wonder who wrote all of these reviews?

D. This part annoys me.. We go to the empty beach (due to the cooler weather), and it is filled with 50 empty lawn chairs. 2 guys are sitting there and watching you to make sure you do not sit on them without paying. So we just sat in the sand next to the empty chairs.... With the cooler weather , we weren't going to sit at the beach for hours, so it is just silly to have chairs there and charge people to sit for a few minutes. Would make more sense not to have chairs there, or have them be a complimentary part of the resort. When you enter the beach there are 2 signs.. if you stay at hotel X, the chairs are complimentary. If you stay at this resort, you must pay a fee. just gives you a bit of an irritated feeling.

E. This part of the beach is not nearly as nice as the pubic beach. It is narrow, filled with shells, and empty.

F. One more thing.. Now this is not the hotels fault, but if you are looking to get away, and want to get some sun, make sure you also check wind in the forecast as well. It might be 75-80, but with the wind it feels like 50 and you will need a jacket/sweater/pants at the beach.. Just quite a bit different from Mexico, where 75-80 means warm water, a warm breeze, and perfect t shirt weather.

G. To be fair the area was safe, and our room was cleaned daily. Not as much nearby as the downtown section of Siesta key.

Honestly, if you stay anywhere else on Siesta Key, you're probably getting less and spending more. Sara Sea is actually a triad of Sara Sea, Tropical Shores and Tropical Sun. They're old motels turned into resorts, and they did a great job on these rooms! I've stayed in Sara Sea and Tropical Shores, and man, they just rocked. It was like a valium. The moment we walked in the door to our room... pffffftt. The tension wooshed out of us, so relaxing. I'm not kidding. It took us an hour to finally get up to go explore, we were SO laid back. Rooms here have always been great. Nice beds, great pillows, nice kitchens. ..and those kitchens are great for making meals to save money. (There's a Publix just down the road so you can stock up.)

Buddy and Stephanie are amazing to deal with, especially Buddy. He's "the fixer". If you need something he (as well as everyone else) will bend over backward to make your stay great. There's shuffleboard (it's fun!), a couple nice pools, and a fantastic beach within a short walk.

We've made Siesta Key, and the Tropical Resorts properties, our yearly destination, and will for years to come. Try this place, you won't be sorry. Also, try Siesta Key Bike and Kayak while staying here (only a block away). One of their 4hr rentals will just make your day. Do that in the morning (cooler), then enjoy the beach or one of the pools for the rest of the day.

Room Tip: I had a Hummingbird room, and we liked it VERY much.

I highly recommend this motel! We had a One bedroom suite with plenty of space. The place was clean and updated. But that is not the best part! The grounds were just beautiful. Lush gardens right outside the door and all around. Just a short, beautiful walk down a nice paver path to the private beach. Oh, did I mention the beach, it is prestine! Sooooo beautiful! The resort provided everything from beach towels to chairs to sand buckets and toys for my kids. There are beautiful little gazebos all around the resort with picnic areas and grills. Lounge chairs everywhere. The staff was so helpful and kind. The pool is beautifully landscaped and warm. My boys ( 4 and 6 yrs old loved the place!) The resort also offers lounge chairs and umbrella rentals for an additional small fee, definitely worth it. So if your thinking of going here.... book it! you will not be disappointed!

My wife and son stayed here recently (Nov 2013) for a weekend wedding in Sarasota. The property was one of the ones selected by my wife's family as they reserved a block of rooms for us. What a choice!! We had a Deluxe Efficiency that was fabulous. Spacious and cozy at the same time. Very clean...folks running the desk were very polite.....they even pre-called a taxi for us the night before to arrive the next morning for our departure. The pool was nice and the beach just magnificent. Although we did not have as much time as we wanted to be able to enjoy the hotel surroundings because of our wedding activities (cocktail party, rehearsal dinner, etc..) what time we did spend at Tropical Beach Resorts was superb. We would go back and stay here again in a minute should we ever return to Sarasota Florida.

My husband and I stayed here for several nights for a little vacation. The room was clean, neat and very functional. The staff was helpful and friendly. The location was great, for both the beach and the pool. Would definitely stay again.
