When it comes to buying a house, most of us would agree that "location, location, location" trumps the size of the backyard or having a walk-in closet. When it comes to finding a great place to stay on vacation, most of us SHOULD agree that it's more about the experience rather than the bells and whistles of a fancy room. We have traveled a lot in our time, and have always thoroughly researched the ideal places for us to stay. No place has ever held a candle to this place! While their rooms are clean and relatively simple (compared to some of the really high expectations of other reviewers), it's their service that will blow you away. After reading a recent review, I had to ask myself what would have happened had they gone to Sandy and said that they would prefer another room? They all truly went out of their way to ensure that we had the easiest time possible - with a 3 and 5 year old, that can be quite a challenge. The Big Show even gave us some of their own beach toys and allowed us to bring them to the beach. Sandy resolved a tv issue we had by upgrading our room and Eryn was extremely helpful in guiding us there and just being super sweet and welcoming. Will also went out of his way to assist us - we prepared our own meals in the kitchen (a major bonus when traveling with kids) and helped us in a way he didn't need to when we needed laundry done. We asked about who owns the resort and were told it was a very 'hands on', caring and giving family - they read the reviews every day - so I promised to write one. The little strip of happiness they've created is evident in their staff and carries over to their guests. If you read a negative review about this place, I can assure you that it's one of 3 things: 1) Really bad luck, things happen sometimes and no one is exempt from this
2) Some people truly are never happy (I own a business and it's rare but there are always those type of people out there)
3) They didn't voice their issues and therefore the issues were not resolved and Captiva did not have an opportunity to go above and beyond for them.
There need to be more places like this in the world and more people like Debra, Sandy, Eryn and Will who run it!

Room Tip: This isn't your ideal place if you need all the extras - there are no DVD players in the rooms, no fitness facility but for the purposes of a wonderful place to call home while near one of the prettiest beaches in the USA, don't look for any room anywhere else!

Artagepictures, Thank you so much for your amazing. I am thrilled to hear that you had such a good time and that the ladies were able to take such good care of you and your two little ones. Captiva Beach Resort and the entire team from the staff to the ownership really are just one big happy family. I’m so happy that you were able to see that. No task is too large for us and we really want to make sure that every guest has a good time. The staff really does do their best to keep up with all of the delicious local restaurants, this way you our guest can really enjoy the true gems of Siesta Key. We truly do appreciate you being our guest and we hope that if you and your family are ever back in Siesta Key that you will come and visit.

Erin, the Hotel Front desk person, turned our stay from small and cramped to great and wonderful! She is an amazing ambassador for this Hotel, nice friendly and wants to be of service to the guests! A nice change from corporate "can't do this" impersonal attitude. Thank you Erin!

we recently returned from our second stay at Captiva and felt the need to comment. This is a very down-to-earth resort. As soon as you drive in the staff make you feel welcome and at home.We can't go on without mentioning Debra (BIG SHOW), Eryn, and Sandy. They are professional, friendly and catered to our every need. It even attracts friendly guests who enjoy mingling in the pretty courtyard. We want to say longer than 4 days next year! Murray and Helen

We just returned from a 4 night stay at the Captiva Beach Resort. I chose it because of the great reviews and pictures looked good. Obviously the picture of our room was NOT one of the ones posted. It was dark, cramped and had the washer and dryer located outside on a shared wall. Hmmmm. It was advertised as a 2 queen bed room one of which turned out to be a sofa bed that when folded out made the room so cramped you had to crawl across a table, or move the table to block the door. As to housekeeping--was told that we were to hang a sign on the door for cleaning--it was ignored. We were given clean towels if we piled the dirty ones on a chair outside! That really added to the ambience of the place. Dirty laundry outside. There was some kind of tiny bugs crawling all over the kitchen and you could have written your name in the dirty on top of the refrigerator. So much for their "White Glove" awards hanging in the office. It really needs updating. The crowning moment was on our last day, an alarm was beeping in the room--started about 4:30 a.m. We went to the office to report it, office was closed with an "emergency" number posted on the door. We called it and left message about the alarm. That too was ignored. It was still going off when we checked out at 8:00 a.m. Good thing it wasn't a fire alarm, the place would have burned to the ground.
All things given, nice office people, a quiet place to stay, close to wonderful beach. If the room hadn't been so dingy and housekeeping lackadaisical, would stay again.

Room Tip: Call them first and get an accurate description of the room and whether it has sunlight and not tucked away by the trash cans and laundry.
