Calini Beach Club
Reviewed November 27, 2012

This is our third RCI exchange at this property and it is also the best unit we've experienced here because it's on the top (fourth) floor and therefore we can see the Gulf of Mexico a short walk from the building. It's a smoke free resort, meaning no smoking in the units or on the balconies. There are two areas reserved for smokers on premises. Also, beautiful Siesta Key beach does not permit smoking, by local ordinance, I understand.

Units have two bedrooms, two baths and full, well stocked kitchens. I would prefer a king size bed to the queens which are currently in use here. All timeshares have certain check out requirements. In my experience, most ask that you put all dirty dishes in the dishwasher and start it before you leave. Calini goes one step further, asking that you put the dishes away after washing, which means, of course, that you have to get them in the dishwasher early enough to have them finished and put away before check out time, which is 10 a.m. I found one dish in the cabinet with dried food on it and the same for one knife in the silverware drawer. I think maybe someone was in a hurry and simply rinsed the items quickly by hand and returned them to the cabinets. For that reason, I would prefer that the "put away dishes" requirement were omitted.

The area is very convenient, too. Across the street is a grocery store, large drugstore, gift shops and restaurants. Javier's is one of my favorites. City Pizza will deliver, and a Subway sandwich shop is on one corner. Anna's sandwiches are also in that small plaza. There's a post office in the back of the drugstore which came in handy when we realized yesterday that we hadn't stopped our mail delivery before we left home! Other fine restaurants are on this small key, making it unnecessary to drive more than a couple miles for a good dinner, if you want to minimize driving.

This resort is always a good choice for us.

Room Tip: The highest floor (4th) has the best view.

I've stayed at The Calini Beach Club for many years and have thoroughly enjoyed my time there. The property is very well maintained, the landscaping is great, the rooms are sunny and quite spacious and the beautiful Siesta Key white sands are just a short stroll away. Being centrally located on Siesta Key gives you easy access to the byway leading directly to the "mainland" (Sarasota) plus it's a short drive to Siesta Key Village with its fun boutiques, ice cream parlors, restaurants and massage studios.

I'll be going back again and again.

Our family of 5 stays here every few years. While the building is older, the units are large and updated with modern finishes. Our two bedroom two bath unit has a spiral staircase leading from the balcony to the courtyard below which is just across an access road from the beach. The gorgeous white powder sand feels nice between the toes. Great for families or couples, there is plenty in the surrounding area to do. The beach is gated and access is limited to those staying in the area rental units. Beach chairs, bikes, and sand toys can be borrowed from the office. It is very nice to have such close access to the beach to sit and watch the unbelievable sunsets over the gulf. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great place to relax or make memories!

Room Tip: Great ocean views from third and fourth floors but there is a common balcony/sun deck to enjoy on 3r...

We have stayed at Calini Beach Resort for many years. The first time we stayed there we bought 2 weeks before we left. The units are large with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The master bedroom is very private from the rest of the unit. They are constantly upgrading the units with new kitchens and painting. They are now starting to replace the bathrooms. The upper floors have a good view of the beach that the lower floors do not have but the lower floors have a stairway down to the pool and bbqs which are fairly new gas ones. The units are supplied with everything that you would need including beach towels, laundry soap, paper towels etc. They are very clean units and mid week they clean again. The building is older but has been very well looked after and the grounds are well maintained. It is a 2 minute walk to the beach across a quiet street so don't have to worry about traffic. The staff are very friendly and try to look after all of your needs. Across the street is a grocery store, a few shops and restaurants and bars and also a drug store so can pick up anything you need. We love this resort and when we bring guests to visit they fall in love with it as well. Our family love it as well and look forward to coming each year to visit.
Siesta Key village is about 1 mile away and there are lots of activities there.
There are not many planned activities and that is one complaint I have and the other complaint is that you sometimes have to change units if you cannot get consecutive weeks in one unit even though all the units are identical.
I would highly recommend this resort to all my friends if you are looking for a fairly quiets and relatively small resort on one of the best beaches in North America.

Room Tip: Upper units have a better view but lower units have direct access to pool and bbg. Units 1 and 6 on...

We spent a week at this resort, and it has almost everything that you could want. It is an older property, but it has all been upgraded. The units are large including the bedrooms, bathrooms, and dining area. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything that you would need to prepare meals. The outside area also has barbecue grills and tables that can be used.
There is also a good sized balcony where you can dine.

The resort has chairs, bikes, umbrellas, beach towels, and other items that can be used free of charge.

The main desk is extrememly friendly and helpful.

It is a very short walk to the beach through a secured gate. The resort is located on the beach side of Midnight Pass. The pool is also large enough for swimming laps.

The resort also has beautiful landscaping.

Some restaurants are a short walk from the resort if one does not feel like driving.

Of course the beach is out of this world! There is also good snorkleing at Point of Rocks, a short walk down the beach.

You should feel lucky if you can get into this resort for a vacation!

Room Tip: We booked through RCI. Plan as far ahead as you can to get into this resort.

First the Pros: We had a 4th floor unit, beautiful view of Ocean. Even though not right on the beach we enjoyed the view more than some beachfront properties due to being able to see palm trees. The location of the condo is very nice, right across the street from the Crescent Grocery Store, Captain Curt's, City PIzza, and other shops. Very close to the main bridge. The pool and grounds are kept up nice. They come by during the week and ask if you would like to exchange towels, linens, beach towels and any other items that provide like toilet paper, etc. Nice touch.

Cons: I agree with the other poster. The light coming into the bedroom was so bad that I had to finally go out the 3rd day and buy 7 blue poster boards and tape. I literally had to make my own "board curtain" to cover over the blinds to get some sleep. Before that it was horrible. They need to invest in some curtains that block all light, like in hotels. The furniture is very uncomfortable, even the chairs on the patio. The bed is only a queen, but there is room for a king, it also wasn't that comfortable. The free beach chairs are pretty old, tacky and need to be replaced. The outlets in the bathroom went out the day before. It was so close to the end of our vacation, we didn't even notify them.

Room Tip: Ask for 3rd or 4th floor, north end of building. The other side might have an obstructed view with...

We made our plans late and this was the only unit available for our schedule. The bedrooms face the front sidewalk. Not only can you hear everyone walking by, but they keep the lights on all night and the blinds did a poor job of blocking the light. Needless to say, sleeping was a challenge. The location is across the street from the beach which is not bad as it is only a short walk through a gate to the beach. But the view of the beach from the balcony is obstructed. You actually end up looking directly into the living room of several units in the building just across from this building. Customer service was less then would be expected from a facility such as this. We were unfortunate to experience a water main break that cut the water supply for most of one day. Not the condo's fault at all, but beyond a phone call they did not offer any assistance to us. No bottled water no nothing. We were under a boil water notice for three days. To top things off, I had accidentally left a very expensive therapeutic pillow I use due to a herniated disk in my neck. We realized this once we got home late in the afternoon and called the condo office that evening and left a message that we left the pillow and also gave them our FedEx number to ship it back to us. We called again and again over four days with no response from Calini. Finally on Wednesday they called back and said they were shipping it. It is a one day ground trip as we only about 1.5 hours away. But by Friday when it did not arrive we called again and they said it was being picked up that day. We then had to pay for overnight Saturday delivery so I did not have to wait three more days to get it on Monday. My suggestion is plan a little further ahead then we did and find another condo to enjoy the white sandy beaches of the west coast of Florida.
