A group of us from all corners of the UK met up at the Church at the Old Manse for a birthday celebration. Transport links worked well; it was handy to be close to Edinburgh and Glasgow, and relatively close to major roads. We were very impressed by the quality of the recent renovation of the Church; the windows in the roof opened by remote control, and there were bespoke touches such as the design of the metalwork on the staircase, and the new stained glass windows (even more impressed when we discovered that the owners had designed and made it). Inside it was very light and cosy, with underfloor heating, the decor was minimalist and modern, and the whole place was spotlessly clean. The rooms were large and cosy, and most were ensuite. One of the large bathrooms contained a sauna and a separate steam room; great facilities to try out. There's a very useful file of information in the house, which contains instructions for how to use the sauna and steam room, amongst other things.
The kitchen facilities were excellent, with a double oven and all the gadgets that we needed in order to prepare meals for ten easily. There was plenty of fridge and freezer space, and a dishwasher. During the day more people arrived, and we were still able to cater for everyone. As the downstairs area is huge and open plan, there was more than enough space for everyone. In the mezzanine area upstairs, there was a full sized snooker table, which kept adults and teenagers alike happy. Next to the snooker table was an excellent sound system, that you could plug a smartphone or other devices containing your own music into, and play it throughout the house. Also in the open plan upstairs area was another seating area with comfy leather settees and a tv.
The utility room had a washing machine and tumble drier that we made use of.
The owners were very helpful, and made sure that we had everything we needed. Nothing was too much trouble.
This was a great place to stay, and I'd be very happy to stay again.
