“Great Place to spend some quite time away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 20, 2012

This is my Second year coming to the Ferndale Lodge and like last year I had a Wonderful Time. I took a few Fishing Trips and spent some time wadding in the waters looking for shells. A Kayak ride to explore the Islands is a Must if the waters are calm. (best if done in the early morning). Ed and Joanne were helpful, curious and kind. In addition I met some of the nicest people during my stay. I look forward to coming back next April and spending a few weeks just chilling out and doing it at my own pace. Thanks for another Great Vacation at the Ferndale Lodge!

Forget about hi-rise condos, cookie-cutter chain hotels, and communities with gates. If you want to experience the quiet, security, and genuine friendliness of what they call 'Old Florida', then this is the place to go. It doesn't seem as if the Ferndale Lodge could have changed much over the past 50 years or so, and that is a good thing. Situated on the Indian River (and Inter-coastal Waterway) in Sebastian, Florida, the Ferndale Lodge is a quiet and restful place, overseen by Ed and Joanne, two of the most accommodating and friendly owners you're likely to meet. Our unit was clean, neat, and stocked with everything needed for housekeeping. With a nod toward modernity, wireless internet is also provided.
Guests can relax on the lawn overlooking the river, or catch fish right from their dock. Kayaks and canoes are free to use and explore nearby islands. Charter fishing boats, ocean beaches, and town, county, state and federal parks are all nearby.
We look forward to returning to the Ferndale Lodge in the future. There is but one minor drawback, due to some official regulation, there is no laundry available for guests. If that were not the case, the rating would be even higher.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view unit

Sebastian is a nice place for spending vacation-"Little Paradise". Quiet and peaceful place. And Ferndale Lodge owners are warm-hearted, nice and family oriented people. They take care about property in professional way. We found everything we needed. We will definitely be back:-)

This comfortable, quiet piece of 'old Florida' is a real hidden gem! The owners are extremely accommodating and the weather was terrific. The wide, shady sidewalk was perfect for getting needed exercise and access the nearby produce market or parks and restaurants. The ocean is less than 15 minutes away and the sunrise over Indian River is spectacular. It is a wonderful place to avoid northern winters in January and February.

Sebastian is a beautiful, peaceful place right on the Indian River. A bit off the beaten path and yet right in the heart of the area is a hidden gem called Ferndale Lodge. The owners are down to earth, friendly and ready to make your stay both memorable and inviting..in fact you'll want to come back again and again! The cottages are neat, clean and inviting...it's like your home away from home with all the amenities of an efficiency.
We loved the peace and quiet, and stayed in two different units-our favorite being the river view. WOW to wake up with the sunrise over the river, to hear the peepers and songbirds outside your door...it doesn't get much more relaxed than this. Nice dock to walk out and sit and watch the porpoises come right in the bay and the jumping mulletts were a hoot! Shuffleboard, game room and beautiful manicured lawn..and the cottage had a fantastic 'Florida room' to eat breakfast, work and relax. Kudo's to Ed & Joanne for being gracious, hospitable host & hostess--we will definetly return!

Just like home, cooking and use of all the equipment needed to make that special meal on stove or grill. Great fresh farm stand in walking distance. Shopping a bargain at local stores, views super, and just what the doctor ordered for the over FIFTY QUIET EXPERIENCE.

We're in our third year for enjoying a relaxing vacation at Ferndale Lodge, Sebastian, FL. Ed and Joanne, the proprietors, are friendly people who do everything possible to make us feel as though we "live there" while we are staying at the lodge. We definitely enjoy the riverview room, not only for the room's layout and the Florida room, but also for the sheer enjoyment of awakening each morning to the view of the rolling lawn, numerous palm trees, and the river. We have a small sailboat that looks just right moored at the dock---and it does make a pretty site in the morning sunrise. The room itself is spacious, the furnishings and bed are clean and comfortable, and the kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, utensils, and cookware---including coffeemaker, toaster, and microwave. All you need to do is hang your clothes in the closet and stock the frig with food---and you are "home." We hope that Ed and Joanne own and operate Ferndale Lodge forever...'cause it is the only place we'll ever go for our annual vacation!
