We stayed in the Helmsley Sandcastle hotel on 2 occasions in late October and in early November and were very happy with the hotel. It is located directly on the beach; our first room was near the pool (thank you for the free upgrade) and about 100 ft (30m) from the water and our 2nd room was right on the. Beach with sea view. The sand is very fine and white. Swimming is great. The hotel provides free beach towels and beach chairs are plentiful. Renting sun umbrellas was $10 per day or $50 per week; we brought our own. The hotel has 2 pools; one for kids and one for adults which is from 3ft 6in to 8ft deep. Near the pools is an outdoor bar that closes at sundown. There was live music at the pool when we arrived on Saturday afternoon. Our rooms were of good size and clean. Both had nicely soft newer carpet. As others have mentioned, the décor is 80s style, except for the bathroom which had a newer tile shoer/bathtub combination. Even though the room looks old fashioned, everything was well maintained and in good condition. The rooms had a coffee machine, an old fridge and a newer good size flat screen TV. The A/C was working nicely. The hotel has free wifi in the rooms and a computer in the lobby.

The hotel has a restaurant that serves breakfast and dinner (maybe also lunch?), but we did not go there.
The hotel is located in a quit 25mph speed zone and about a mile away from a nice shopping center, about 3.5 miles from the Bayfront and 4 miles from Sarasota's historic district on Main Street.
Near the hotel are a lot of other hotels that look more modern from the outside, but are significantly more expensive.
Long story short: The Helmsley Sandcastle hotel provides great value for the price and I would definitely stay there again.More
