This hotel has great views and a great location. Shopping in the circle was walking distance as well as many good resturants. Hotel staff is very nice and helpful. Rooms could be a little cleaner but over all not bad.

Room Tip: Ask fo a Gulf view room, its worth the extra cost

Traveled here in July of 2011 for a mini vacation with the girlfriend. The hotel itself seemed a little dated, but the location made everything worthwhile! The hotel is located right across the street from Lido Beach (literally about 50 feet), and about a 5-10 minute drive to Siesta Key.

Rooms - Spacious and comfortable. We had a king size ocean view room, and it was absolutely gorgeous. Room featured a balcony you can sit on with chairs and a small table. Bed was comfortable. Room had the standard hotel features (coffee maker, shower/tub combo, etc) and was very clean.

Hotel Amenities - The hotel had a smallish pool, but it was located in the front area so you had a great view of the beach. The hotel offered complimentary rentals of towels, beach chairs, beach umbrellas, childrens toys, rafts, etc. There was a small restaurant located inside the hotel on the top floor, which was perfect as they had huge floor length windows you sat by when you ate. I never got a chance to eat here, but I would imagine it would be gorgeous to watch a sunset while dining. The restaurant featured a made to order breakfast/breakfast buffet in the morning (I think the buffet was $11.95 and the MTO ranged from $6-$12) as well as serving dinner and room service (Breakfast and Dinner Only). The food seemed to be typical for the area (lots of fresh seafood dishes) as well as serving standard burgers, chicken, steak, etc. The restaurant did not offer any sort of lunch, but downstairs there was a small bar in the lobby, as well as a poolside bar where you could order sandwiches, burgers, wings, and appetizers.

Service - Staff was friendly, and no problems at all. I had talked to them about restaurants in the area and they were more than accomodating (although the girl did try to sell me on their restaurant first).

Location - Almost nothing needs to be said about it, as it's an absolutely perfect area! The hotel itself located directly across from the beach. Approximately a half mile away was a small town (not even sure if it was a town or just an area) called St. Armand's Circle which was absolutely gorgeous. They had an assortment of small shops, restaurants, and boutiques all locally owned. During my entire stay here, I never once saw a Wal-Mart, McDonald's, or Starbucks. I do know that these types of places were accessible within a 10-15 minute drive closer inland towards Sarasota.

Overall: Decent hotel, but if you come to vacation here you are coming for the beach and not a resort vacation. Hotel may or may not be worth the $ to you - if you're on a budget stay inland a mile or two and you'll only be a 5 minute drive to the beach but you'll save $50 a night.

Room Tip: Definitely choose a room with the beach view. The rooms on the backside didn't have a beach view...

This was our third stay here. While it does have a fabulous location being just steps away from beautiful Lido Beach on the Gulf of Mexico and a few blocks from the incredible shops and restaurants at St. Armand's Circle, we also find the rooms comfy and quiet and the staff extremely friendly and accommodating. Oh sure the rooms are a tad dated----more electrical outlets would be nice---but still very roomy and better than most. Besides, with a location like this there's no point in spending much time in the room! And if you're fortunate enough to have a gulf side room, the view from the balcony, especially at sunset, is spectacular.
And in this day of places nickel and diming folks for everything, we didn't find that here: free WIFI, free beach chairs and towels and even parking.

Another big, big plus for us is how responsive management is to customer comments. Take a look through other reviews here and see the manager's responses.

When we we're the Sarasota area, this is our go-to place. A can't-be-beat location, great service, very adequate and quiet rooms and all at a very reasonable price. We'll be back. Count on it!

Room Tip: Go for the beach side and a higher floor!

Stayed 3 nights on a vacation with my wife - 1 king Gulf view room. Overall the property benefits from a fantastic location (right on the beach and a block's walk to shopping and food at St. Armand's Circle) and a gorgeous view.

Upon checkin I was recognized as a PC Gold Member and the thank you gift was appreciated, however, it consisted of 2 bottles of water (great) and some very odd leftover Halloween candy (not so great.) I had paid extra for a gulf view room but on the registration card I could see we had originally been slotted for a room on the 7th floor; that was then scratched out and we were demoted to the second floor. Kind of a low class move! The view from our second floor room was very nice, although it was partially obstructed by a palm tree with fronds exactly the same height as the room.

Other reviewers have covered many issues already - the property is clearly older and in need of some TLC - most prominently with the interior elevators. The doors jerk and bang and each elevator seems to be out of adjustment. Our room was very clean and well-appointed, but both it and the bathroom seemed rather small compared to other locations. My wife used the fitness center and said it is small, but the equipment is in excellent condition. We ate one meal (dinner) at the 7th floor restaurant with very good service and food.

Beach chairs and towels are provided by the front desk. Again, this is a great amenity to have, but to say the the beach chairs have seen better days is an understatement. Many of them are rusty, with plastic tubes separating from the seats and the backs. A relatively small investment would improve this immensely.

The thing that probably bothered me the most during our stay was the fact that the hotel doesn't have a hot tub. I understand it's an older property, but you're located in a leisure spot where folks are coming to relax. To not offer this is fairly inexcusable.

This is a beachfront hotel and I understand paying a premium price for location and view, but the value received really diminishes when "standard" amenities are lacking or in poor shape. This, coupled with the property's age, will likely drive us to consider other options next time we are in the area.

Room Tip: Gulf view rooms are great but obviously command a premium price. I would insist on a room above the...

Thank you for your comments! We are working to improve our property all the time. New chairs are here, and we continue to look for other areas - all agree here that a HOT TUB is in order!

I first stayed here alone for a week of R&R and fell in love. I have since been back for 2 more week-long stays and this is now an annual trip of mine. The location of the hotel can't be beat-- directly across the street from a gorgeous beach, and a 5 minute walk to St. Armand's Circle where you can find lots of great shopping and restaurants. The hotel, while not entirely modern or luxurious, is everything you need for a quiet, affordable beach vacation in a gorgeous location. With everything you need within walking distance, this is a go-to spot for me and I'm satisfied every time.

Room Tip: An oceanview room will afford you a private balcony view of the most gorgeous sunsets each night.

Stayed here for 5 days and loved every minute! Asked for an upper floor Gulf view b/c I was not pleased with the "road" betweeen hotel and beach. 5th floor view is AMAZING. Road and traffic not an issue in this sleepy town. I can lay on the bed and see the ocean! Beautiful, clean and SOFT sand beach is always empty except for a handful of people. Shells everywhere to look at and collect. St. Armands around the corner offers everything to eat or shop - within easy walking distance. I can't say enough good about this hotel. The beds are like a puffy yet firm cloud and the room is updated and clean. Sliding balcony door works well, and refrig is a plus. Outlets easy to get to and bathroom clean and accomodating. Pool area is plain but very clean and updated. Looks out to ocean. Palms and flowering shrubs add to tropical landscaping and rooftop restaurant offers amazing view (though I didn't eat there). Staff is friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Upper floor ensures less distraction from traffic - definitely choose a Gulf view room!!!!
