“comfort and great pool”
Reviewed August 19, 2012

I came here for a few days on business and everything about the stay was great. The staff were very helpful, the room comfortable and the pool great to hang about in for an afternoon. The hotel is convenient for all the Sarasota locations.

Were there for a medical conference. Rooms a bit small but location, views are great. Nice lobby and pool. Close to lido beach and Armand's circle...Get marina view rooms so that you are not overlooking the parking lot

We arrived on a Saturday, having made our reservations months earlier, only to be told at check-in that the king size bed was not available as we had requested. We had just driven 9 hours plus, the car air conditioner went out on the trip and we didn't need to hear that! We were quite disturbed having made the reservations so long prior to arrival. After being very disheartened; the front desk staff woman noticed our displeasure and indicated that we would have to accept a room with 2 doubles but since the error was from the hotel; they would comp us the room and the wifi service for that night and guarantee that we would have a king room the following day and they would arrange to move everything for us. This was a very welcomed offer to calm us; as our tempers were frazzled due to the heat we had to endure in the car most of the journey.

Arriving in the 4th floor room, we found it very clean, comfortable and the view looking north over the arts center was very peaceful. We were moved the following morning by noon while we were at church services. They provided a room on the 10th floor with a balcony overlooking the pool and the marina. The view in our opinion was not as nice as the rooms facing north, but it was fine. The small little balcony was used a few times to just sit and absorb some of the day.

We did have a few minor concerns that we voiced in the comment survey after the first day. To our surprise, the following morning we received a call from Mr. Gregory and he talked to my wife and he in turn tried to be of immediate service and make us satisfied customers. One comment had to do with the requirement to log in daily to the WiFi service payment agreement. This was a problem when you have the service, you type a long response to an email, you click send and suddenly it is time to renew your agreement and all that typing is now lost as the service dropped midway in my email session. I would think that the WiFi provider could have a software change to allow you to sign in only once your entire stay and agree then to the charges. It surprised me that a high class hotel as the Hyatt is, that they would not provide WiFi free anyway. Other less expensive chains, restaurants, etc. all provide it free. This Hyatt charges either $9.95 or 14.95 per day depending on the service requested. Mr. Gregory heard my complaint and handled this to our satifaction.

My wife also indicated that certain days newspapers were no longer available in the lobby. Mr. Gregory went out of his way to assure that a newspaper was delivered to our door each morning; now that is not provided to anyone else so what service! Thank you!

My wife also liked the bath salts that were in our room the first day. She had requested that more be left daily and they were promised, but never appeared. Just a minor niceity; but somehow the room cleaning service does not restock that I assume.

We tried the Currents restaurant for a late dinner on Sunday night. The tomato soup was way too spicy, the chowder was okay but nothing special and the Caesar salad was very sparce for the $10 charged and was a poor preparation to be called a Caesar. The lighting in the restaurant was very turned down and us old folks really had trouble trying to read the menu. We even took the small electric candle frame and placed it on top of the menu to try to read it with not much success. We were disappointed in our experience there and did not try it at any other meal, opting to go out every meal instead.

The pool is beautiful, the location of the hotel to easy walking to a few restaurants and convenient to the shopping and restaurants at St. Armands. The bellman offers free transportation to nearby restaurants and other nearby conveniences at set times which we utilized one evening when we were awaiting our car to return from the repair shop.

The only other last item was the taste of the water within the hotel. I attended a training sesssion during the week and the water in the classrooms as well as the hotel rooms all tasted like "sulpher"; like it was at the beach locations 30 years ago. We made note of this to the staff too; but were told this was the way it is in that hotel. The restaurants all near the hotel all served us just tap water and they all had no similar taste. Just another area of room for improvement.

Don't get me wrong; the hotel is beautiful, clean and when a complaint was voiced the staff all went out of their way to assure we were a happy guest one way or another. The staff truely made the stay 1st class in our opinion. The little touches within the rooms such as the in room safe, the in room refrig and the bath salts were very nice. The bed was very comfortable and lots of pillows were provided. We did not see any grout issues in our rooms as reported by other reviews. The maids did seem to do a very good job cleaning and preparating them; but on the last 2 days the plastic no-slip bath mat was taken but not replaced and the coffee used was refilled but tea bags were not refilled.

The conference training I attended will likely return again next year to this hotel and we look forward again to staying at this Hyatt. Make your thoughts known to the staff; they are what made the difference to us. They went out of their way to assure we were satisfied and accomplished that.

Room Tip: We had a room the first night over looking the performing arts center and the bay. The remainder of...

Last year our stay was disappointing. This time it was one of the best experiences we have had. You couldn't find a better place to stay in Sarasota unless you paid two to three times more on the beach. The pool, restaurant and balcony are superb. Restaurant is pricy but the drinks and staff are fantastic. In the business district but only minutes from St Armand’s circle, Lido Key and Siesta Key. The rows and rows of restaurants on Main St, just a few blocks away make it very easy to finish a wonderful day in the sun. The General manager, Mark, mingles with the guests and personally makes sure everyone is satisfied with their stay, as well as all the staff doing the same. If you’re visiting of vacationing in Sarasota, this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Take a room with a balcony overlooking the marina, they are the best.

My family and I stayed here for two nights in July 2012. We all loved it from the moment we entered the hotel to the day we left. My two sons absolutely loved the swimming pool area and the bay view. The staff was really nice. The hotel it self was beautiful. I will return next year with my family!

Let's start with the Good:

- The Staff was unbelievable, even though I was told that the gotel was completely sold out the night before we checked in, we received the utmost attention from everyone as if we were their only guests.

- The Rooms were clean and modern with all the amenities we needed to make our stay enjoyable.

- The location was perfect, 3 miles from Lido beach and less to St. Armand's Circle.

- The pool(s), they lived up to the high expectations we have come to expect from the Hyatt.

- Breakfast was an excellent selection of foods to accommodate everyone in my family, Even my 3 young children! PS, Thank you for having great Coffee.... !

The Bad and the Ugly: NONE!

This experience is the exact reason I am a Loyal Customer of the Hyatt. A special thanks to Maria in housekeeping for the outstanding work she does and attention to detail she has to the needs of her guests!

Thanks again!

I have stayed at this Hyatt for years. It just keeps getting better and better. The local management has taken what was a standard Hyatt by most accounts and elevated it to a welcoming and relaxing destination. There really is not a bad view. The pool is fun for couples, business travelers unwinding and families all at the same time. The restaurant has updated their menu and the selections and service are top notch. What really makes the difference in the Hyatt is the staff. They are extremely upbeat and helpful. The recruiting and training team here has been working overtime to ensure that all their staff are ready to help at every turn.
