Description: Welcome to OPA! OPA!, Where we provide an authentic Greek dining experience and treat our guests like family! We are a family run Greek restaurant that opened its doors in 2013 and serves the Gulf Gate area of Sarasota, FL and beyond. When you walk in our restaurant, you will immediately feel the warmth and family atmosphere we have created. We pride ourselves on serving only high quality, homemade, and fresh food. We truly care about our guests and know them on a first name basis; many have become like family to us. Our cozy restaurant is run by a husband and wife team, along with a few trusted and valued employees. Michele oversees the front of the restaurant, while Yanni doubles as our Executive Chef and brings over 20 years of experience to our business. Many of our recipes are straight from his mother's village in Peloponnese, Greece. We offer a wide variety of traditional Greek cuisine and a collection of Greek wines you are sure to love! All of our meals are made-to-order by Yanni himself and will surely leave you feeling satisfied. Our goal is to serve our guests a meal "just like Yiyia used to make" and for you to leave here feeling like part of our family. You can dine in or carry out; let our family serve your family! Your Hosts, Michele and Yanni Haralampopoulos

My go to Greek restaurant had closed a while back so I have been looking for a new good Greek restaurant. This place was really good. I ordered the Greek salad & a gyro. They were both excellent but both huge! They both could easily be shared between 2 people. I loved the pita they serve at the table too! I will definitely be coming back!

We discovered Opa Opa! shortly after it opened late last year and it has become a favorite go-to restaurant in our area. The owner, Yanni, makes everything from scratch and we've tried most of the menu items over the course of our many visits for lunch or dinner. The moussaka, saganaki, grape leaves, spinach in any form, gyros, salads and the pita are all wonderful and reasonably priced. Yanni, his wife, Michelle, and the wait staff are all welcoming and attentive and leave you feeling that you've just visited a family-run Taverna in Greece. What a fabulous gem for Sarasota's Gulf Gate area!

Just when we had given up finding good Greek food in the Sarasota area we stumbled on Opa Opa, in the unsuitably named one-block-long Superior Avenue and... hello!!! enjoyed a mouth-watering Hellenic repast served by a genial staff. Opa Opa, indeed! Since then we've been back twice and have placed Opa Opa on our eateries short list. Like a good taverna this Hellenic enclave features super-friendly and cheerful service in a nice, small-ish room with comfortable seating. Well-prepared dishes from a short-ish menu that concentrates on standards, mostly well-executed in the open kitchen in the back of the room and, in our pleasant experience, very fresh.
While we missed some classics like skordalia, biftekia and maroulosalata we licked our chops over the grilled octopus, ouzo-flambéed goat cheese, lightly fried smelts and the stuffed grape leaves in lemon sauce, among other plates. Portions tend to be generous, the beer is properly chilled and the tab is reasonable. Be prepared for waits during peak dinner hours on weekends unless you have a reservation. Note: as of the end of June it is closed for lunch. Staff says lunches will resume during the Snowbird Season.

We went to this restaurant specifically for the octopus, it was not as fantastic as written in the reviews, and for the little portion, quite expensive $10! Spending almost $80 for a marginal meal with mediocre wine in a diner was disappointing.
The waitress was very friendly but wearing a dirty shirt, and that early evening.
