Description: Welcome to OPA! OPA!, Where we provide an authentic Greek dining experience and treat our guests like family! We are a family run Greek restaurant that opened its doors in 2013 and serves the Gulf Gate area of Sarasota, FL and beyond. When you walk in our restaurant, you will immediately feel the warmth and family atmosphere we have created. We pride ourselves on serving only high quality, homemade, and fresh food. We truly care about our guests and know them on a first name basis; many have become like family to us. Our cozy restaurant is run by a husband and wife team, along with a few trusted and valued employees. Michele oversees the front of the restaurant, while Yanni doubles as our Executive Chef and brings over 20 years of experience to our business. Many of our recipes are straight from his mother's village in Peloponnese, Greece. We offer a wide variety of traditional Greek cuisine and a collection of Greek wines you are sure to love! All of our meals are made-to-order by Yanni himself and will surely leave you feeling satisfied. Our goal is to serve our guests a meal "just like Yiyia used to make" and for you to leave here feeling like part of our family. You can dine in or carry out; let our family serve your family! Your Hosts, Michele and Yanni Haralampopoulos

“Disappointed”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

We went to this restaurant specifically for the octopus, it was not as fantastic as written in the reviews, and for the little portion, quite expensive $10! Spending almost $80 for a marginal meal with mediocre wine in a diner was disappointing.
The waitress was very friendly but wearing a dirty shirt, and that early evening.

“Staff short-handed did not reflect food or service!”
Reviewed June 15, 2014

Visited first time last Friday. Made a reservation and requested a booth after owner, Michelle, asked table preference. We arrived a little late, but the booth was waiting. Dining Room is casual and you can watch the cooks prep and parpare food.
Our server arrived and took drink orders. Just wine and beer, but we were pleased. The basket of warm pitas were enjoyed. AND they were replenished when the meal came, too, without asking.
My hubby had a gyro and he said it was the best he's ever had. Better than when we were in Greece, too! His fries were extremely hot when the entree came, how nice! Rest of us had the lamb chops featured on the menu. Choice of soup or salad. The Greek salad was good. Meal came also with choice of one side. Even without mint jelly (other hubby was obsessed they didn't have it!), they were juicy, flavorful although on the thin side.
The dining room was missing a server, but Cybil worked so efficiently and with the help of Michelle, the service was thorough and efficient. Ouzo would have made our dinner complete.
Will return and try other dishes.

“Delicious food and pitas”
Reviewed June 8, 2014

Very pleasantly surprised to get a complimentary basket of the BEST PITAS anywhere. Seasoned just right and were perfect in texture and taste. We ordered saganaki as an appetizer and loved it. Then we took the pita and soaked up the lemon juices and bits of cheese left over from the saganaki. Gyros were delicious and served on those perfectly cooked pitas. We tried the baklava and it was ok -- really wasn't what we expected but perhaps it was their own twist on baklava. The custard type dessert was good, though. Loved the atmosphere and Greek music playing. Got the feeling that I was in a Greek island while in there. Definitely worth a visit.

“Not as good as the reviews...may give it another shot”
Reviewed June 3, 2014

Went with high hopes. The octopus was excellent. As it was our first time, I ordered the greek "sampler" versions for both appetizer and dinner. It is a good way to check how good the cook is. The spanakopita (spinach pie) was a little undercooked; the phyllo was still pale; Phyllo should also be thicker for spinach pie than it is for baklava. Definitely not homemade. The dolmades were homemade but, as it is typical for greek restaurants in the US, too much meat and not enough rice. The tzatziki was a bit too garlicky but good. The moussaka had a layer of potatoes at the bottom as in most greek restaurants in the US, but not in Greece. The pastitsio (easiest of the typical greek dishes) was good. They did not have rice pudding but we took a piece of galaktobureko home at the suggestion of the server. It was disappointing! we may go again and try their fish and gyro

“Great food!”

A great family owned restaurant.. Beautiful presentation and fantastic cuisine. A little confusing on where to dit or wait to be seated and where to pay the check but these were minor distractions.
